Very credible win for Smith - just the sort of fight he needed. That said, I think if I were guiding him I'd be looking for two or three more fights of that type of level before trying to put him in with a Groves or a DeGale.
He also looks bldy massive for a Super-Middleweight; could see him moving up at some stage in the future.
I agree on both counts. I saw a feature on Sky Sport News where Paul Smith thought he would cause problems for both, but more for Groves. I must say that on that performance De Gale and Groves would comfortably beat him, BUT he is young and will improve LOADS. He needs more fights and time before stepping up.He also looks bldy massive for a Super-Middleweight; could see him moving up at some stage in the future.
He is HUGE for the weight. He could probably go through two more divisions (i.e. end up at cruiser) before he ends his career.
Joshua has been matched at the right pace in my eyes. But saying that, he does need a small step up after Sprott because he should steamroll him. I'd like to see him in there against a few shrewd fighters and then I'd like to see him in there with a few bangers before he starts aiming his sights higher.
Any views on the Pacquiao vs Algieri fight? Algieri can certainly box but he doesn't really carry much power. I think it could be a tricky fight for Pacquiao due to the height difference but I can't forget the fact that the much slower and weaker puncher in Provodnikov was able to find Algieri and hurt him. Ultimately Pacquiao is 1 or 2 classes above him which should see him outbox Algieri (who has never fought at this weight) or maybe even stop him late. If he doesn't win then it would be time to think about calling it a night which would be a great shame as he'd be a huge loss to the boxing world.
