Yeah, could/should be a decent challenge for AJ. He has lost his last 3 fights though, to Manuel Charr, Chisora and Christian Hammer.

Few more dates to add to your diary;

  • April 11th: Andy Lee v Peter Quillin, WBO middleweight title defence, also Danny Garcia v Lamont Peterson.
  • April 18: Richar Abril v Derry Mathews, Terence Crawford v Thomas Dulorme and Lucas Matthysse v Ruslan Provodnikov.

My ancestor. Pretty good record by any standards.
72 fights in 9 years..and those years happening to be in the 20s/30s......

50-19-3 is a fking phenominal record!
Tough men back then alright, fighting every few weeks. No disrespect to anyone that gets in the ring but I think that was a very, very hard period and the men matched it. He looked a tough old boy didn't he?!

That's really good - I actually had a photocopy of that photo of Dempsey (which I got out of a Ring Magazine encyclopaedia I think) on my bedroom wall when I was a kid; one of my favourite boxing-related shots.

Strangely enough, it's that last fight I'm probably most looking forward to. Both hit hard, both partial to a tear-up, both with something to prove...could be a real barn-stormer!

I agree, am really looking forward to seeing Ruslan Provodnikov in action again.

Cheers dude!.... don't get the time any more but still get the urge.....

I painted marciano v. Moore in maroon and metallic.....made a few mistakes on 3 large canvases to create a tryptic....always intended to re do it for a real a bit bigger on better quality canvases but never got the time.....

One day!

I've still got it displayed in the boxing room until I get the chance to do it again. Quick snap....

Looks like that could be Braehmer's next defence. I was actually at the O2 show when Clev was supposed to challenge him for his WBO belt and was pretty disappointed when Braehmer pulled out, leaving Clev to fight for the vacant title...although if I'm being honest, part of that was because I thought Clev would have too much for Braehmer so was expecting to see him announce himself on the world stage that night - hence felt slightly aggrieved for him that he was denied that 'crowning glory' moment of taking the belt from the reigning champion. However, the more I see of Braehmer, the less convinced I am that it would have been that straighforward. He might not be spectacular but he's a well-seasoned, class operator who is savvy and skillful enough hold his own with just about anyone in the division. Compounding this, while I can understand Clev taking the shot, after the defeats to Kovalev and Bellew and the chopping around of weight divisions and trainers in the last couple of years, mentally I'm just not sure he's ready for it. Not exactly the ideal circumstances to be trying to de-throne a fighter of Braehmer's quality...

Not good news. Hopefully Burns still has some opportunities to put himself on a more secure financial footing...

I remember only a few years ago, definitely whilst he was a world champ, he was still working part time in JD Sports. It's quite surprising how little most high level boxers earn, if anything at all. There something of the dark side about Frank Warren but you have to ask what advice Ricky Burns was being given and why? I'm thinking he's been a pawn in a bigger battle.

Sad to hear about Ricky going bust.

Surprised that Audley Harrison is also alledgedly heading the same way.

Very sad reality of Pro boxing, very few have the talent & backing to make it to the top, then when they do, few manage to retain & build on there earnings.

Lloyd Honeygan another example of the many that have earned well but didn't keep hold of it.

Frank Warren - holding purse money from Burns..............Its a tough game
