Had people round last night so just making my way through the 14 or so hours sitting on the Sky+ now! Just done the Frank Warren Wembley show. Very entertaining slugfest between Buglioni and Markham; neither could be mistaken for Mayweather but a gutsy tear-up nonetheless. Also on the card was a kid (and I do mean kid!) in his second pro fight. When I first heard about him, I thought he might be a bit of a joke but actually looked like he could be a real prospect, which was a surprise given he's only 18 years old without any amateur background of which to speak. A small chance he could just be going places so might be worth remembering this name...
...Boy Jones Junior!!!
i had to google that to make sure you weren't bullstting me!!!!...Boy Jones Junior!!!

Have to say, I thought the performances of the two British fighters out in Texas were both outstanding and in slightly different ways, I was delighted for both.
I think Jamie McDonnell firmly established himself as a major player in the division against a fighter being groomed for stardom in his (adopted) back yard. Not only that; until now I've always felt it was his engine and workrate that got him to where he was; in Saturday's fight, there was a quality to his performance I hadn't noticed previously.
There was something in Ricky Burns' display on Saturday too that I don't think I've seen from him since he's been at world level - spite. He's always looked an accomplished boxer and undoubtedly is as brave as they come, but on Saturday there was a genuine nastiness about his performance; looking to ram his head into Figueroa's face any time he was up close, clinching, rabbit punching, shots straying low, hitting on the break, the lot. In a way, it felt like he actually didn't really care what the outcome of the fight was; that the important thing was for him to make a statement - that he was still a force in the sport and anyone seeing him as a soft touch to get an ex-world champion's scalp on their CV had better bldy well think twice! Also, it felt like there was some exorcising of a few demons gathered over the last couple of years - both inside and especially outside of the ring - going on. To be honest, the way he fought, I have a sneaking suspicion that though his opponent was officially Omar Figueroa, for twelve rounds all Ricky Burns could see stood in front of him was Frank Warren!
Finally, I know there are some photoshop whizzes on this site...is there any way you can superimpose Pacquiao and Mayweather's faces onto those of Canelo and James Kirkland?!?! Worth $100/£20 of anyone's money...!
i must agree, that's a better performance than i've ever seen before from mcdonnell......and that's the right word for burns' performance....spiteful.....jim watt...what the fk was he watching???(again)I think Jamie McDonnell firmly established himself as a major player in the division against a fighter being groomed for stardom in his (adopted) back yard. Here's a well reading thought piece on the Pacquiao shoulder debacle.
Despite stating the obvious, it really highlights how Manny had little choice

Kid Galahad has been banned for 2 years after failing a drugs test. He's appealing but obviously a big domestic fight with either Frampton or Quigg looks in real jeopardy.

Speaking of Quigg, he's signed to fight Kiko Martinez in the summer; the guy Frampton beat to win the IBF belt last year. Should be an interesting yard-stick...
