Is boxing a racist sport?
Yeh, that bit raised my eyebrow - don't understand what he is trying to say!
Surely one of the last things Mayweather should be complaining about is money? His one of the highest paid athletes in the world.

just read that fritz sdunek has died on 22nd December. for those that don't know he was the guy that took the klitschkos under his wing when they first went to Germany. he trained vitali for his entire career and also trained wladimir for the first half of his career .

there was a little bit of me that secretly hoped he would bring vitali back out from his retired " champion emeritus " status to take the wbc belt one more time before giving up for good. sadly now we won't see it i'm sure. fritz was like a second father to both brothers but more so vitali and I don't think he'd want to do it without him. sad news

Agreed!

Anyone see the Ringside special with Ricky Hatton?

Didn't realise he'd fallen out with his parents, must have been pretty bad whatever went on.

Interesting in the build up to PacMan fight too, just worn out, would explain why he got sparked, obviously had some serious issues, still, world class whatever way you look at him.

Ricky one of my all time favourites. .....followed his entire career from the amateurs. Haven't got time now but I've got the inside story on his parents. Pretty sad story all about greed and control. I felt like crying g watching that last night.boxing thread back to the top of page 1 !!!! Yeah!!

oh, and I HOPE stiverne flattens wilder and really believe he will.............HOWEVER, I little bit of me wants to see wilder win because I think that will be a bigger fight for klitschko. the yanks would lap that up in the garden!!

To be honest with you, I think this is our generation's 'Kennedy Assassination' moment. I don't think any of us will ever forget where we were when we found out that Haye 'even made sure he put time aside to take in the new James Brown movie' whilst on his flight.

Do you think either of them could defeat Klitschko?

Wilder has the physical size but his record suggests he's got some serious flaws as he's avoid any dangerous opponents. stiverne looks to have the skills to trouble Klitschko but he'd be giving away 4 inches in height.

To be honest, I may be in the minority but I'm hoping Wilder flattens Stiverne for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, it would be nice to see Wilder become a genuine threat to the HW division if he sparks Stiverne. Stiverne is a solid contender at HW but we know what he can do and he just doesn't have what it takes to beat Wladimir Klitschko and there's really no shame in saying that. At this precise moment in time, nobody knows if Wilder has what it takes because his career has been managed very carefully by putting him against guys who don't really belong in the ring with him.

Secondly, I heard recently that Stiverne was sitting ring side at a UFC event and starting running his mouth at former Bantemweight champ Wayne McCullough's wife. By all accounts he was pretty disrespectful so I've been hoping he'd catch a beating from Wilder ever since.

Eitherway, it has the potential to be a real interesting fight but I have a feeling that the longer this fight lasts the less chance Wilder has of winning as he has only boxed 58 rounds in his 32 fight career.. eek. Perhaps he just doesn't have the engine to last if Stiverne can keep away from those bombs early on?

honestly, no........nobody is unbeatable but the current version of wladimir is the closest thing of this generation.

I watched a Muhammad ali interview from a few years back recently and a journalist asked him who , of all the champions that had gone before him, would have given him most trouble.
you would expect him to say Johnson or Louis but without hesitation he said Marciano. not because he was the most skilled, but because he was wild and upredictable and would throw such a volume of punches from the most unusual positions that he was impossible to time correctly. ali sparred a lot of rounds with Marciano shortly before rocky's death for the famous "computer fight" and had his body punched red raw by a podgy, retired Marciano (who wore a wig for the filming!!). even well into his retirement and 40 odd years old and fat he could still punch like a mule kick.

now i'm not saying wilder is anything like Marciano!!!..........but his unpredictable free swinging style coupled with crazy power may just raise a few eyebrows.

however.........if you read the spar stories and watch the youtube videos he has already been embarrassed by david haye in sparring and was actually flattened by a jab. he went to Austria to join one of wlad's camps and was knocked cold for his trouble. fighting isn't sparring but it's the next closest thing and his rawness/ lack of skill with the very best operator out there would overwhelmingly likely result in a fking good hiding..........but he always has that great equalizer in crushing power.

Pfft...that ain't journalism. Okay, we know Haye had a nice breakfast, but where does it say whether the meal was made even more enjoyable by the lovely waiting staff and, if it was, whether the Hayemaker thanked them for their hospitality??? Poorly researched article IMO...

Actually, this doesn't surprise me. I'm pretty sure Haye and the Klitschkos quite like each other; I remember that youtube clip in the immediate aftermath of the Chisora bust-up in Germany - when Haye was walking off backstage, he stopped to shake hands with I think Vitali, who was grinning like a Cheshire cat!

Also, from a practical perspective, if Haye is serious about getting back to the top of the Heavyweight division after an extended absence from the sport, who better to have a chat with than Vitali...?

On other heavyweight matters, see AJ has had to pull out of his fight with Kevin Johnson with a back injury. A real pity; this would probably have been a good measure of how Joshua was progressing and whether a summer fight with someone like Fury was a realistic option.

I feel that the "journalist" in question should be hurt.badly.......I mean, did david have coffee? tea? what was the style of eggs he enjoyed?? scrambled? over easy?
it's this slap dash approach and shoddy workmanship that has become a weeping wound on the ugly face of british journalism.

anyway, just heard about Joshua. crying shame that as he really needs to get some rounds in and o proven slippery survivor like kingpin would have been very valuable. I just hope big eddie can secure him again for the summer fight.

after haye had "glassed" chisora I remember vitali giving him a standing ovation and a big juicy round of applause from behind the table before the inevitable handshake.

at the time of hatgate and the vitali/david restaurant bust up I was adamant the animosity was real

Looks like Derry Mathews has got a world title shot; in his own back yard too! Should be a great night in Liverpool with Stephen Butler fighting for the IBF belt as well...
