I thought rather than have a thread for each fight, let's keep it tidy and in one place.

Well

Just watched Mitchell v Prescott, superb fight, Mitchell was on the ball in every round, and looks like an exciting prospect, I hope he get a chance at some good pay days with some big names.

Khan v Salida

Well

That was over quickly!

Not much to say really, difficult to see if Khan has progressed when he's ttted the guy inside a round without getting touched, still, all good.

MARCH 13 2009

MAYWEATHER v PACQUIAO

COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT'S ON!!!!

I'm predicting a Mayweather points victory.

I'd rather we had a thread per fight to be honest ... otherwise you'll get people talking about different fights all through the thread and it'll be all over the place.

It's like saying let's have ONE footy thread.

Missed Khan (was going to watch online). Didn't miss much by the sounds of it!

Mitchell, boxed clever, looked good and made Prescot look pretty average.

Kahn, not alot to say realy, to much power, precision and speed, great one two for the first knockdown after that Salita didn't even see the left hand coming. To much class for Salita.

I was gutted to see salita go down so quickly. I really don't like Khan's attitude and was hoping for a test but :-(

I know what you mean, and it did cross my mind, but judging from previous fight threads, there's only 20 or so of us in total who tend to respond, and generally only when it's a big fight.

By having this little bad boy, perhaps we can have some discussion on the Friday fights too, talk about up and coming fights etc...

Just a thought.

Fair enough - don't mind keeping it all here - rarely are there many big fights on at the same time so conversations and comments shouldn't get TOO diluted ...

We're all just counting down though really tuntil next March aren't we?

khan caught salita cold but that speed!he always had a very crisp shot but telegraphed a lot of his work and left his chin up after throwing shots.faultless performance really but i feel a little bit sorry for salita bacause he didn`t get a chance to show what he`s got.freddie roach is a genius and isn`t it good that prescott did khan 15 months ago??otherwise non of this would be possible.mitchell showed control!!!i`m used to seeing him wild and throwing the head in on occasion but he boxed really well and finally looks the real deal.i must admit, though , that breidis looks a little raw and uncontrolled.a rematch with khan (if it ever happened)would result in an embarrasment for prescott.

I agree totally. This way there is somewhere for us to ask questions and comment on a more regular basis.

was very impressed with Khan, was a big critic of him before. The true tests will now come next year! Was impressed with Mitchell aswell, i was just waiting for one of prescotts bombs to land in the opening rounds. Came close a few times!

All in all next year looks to be exciting for British boxing. Looking forward to it. Managed to get to a few fights this year, best one being Pacquiao v Cotto in Las Vegas. Awesome Awesome atmosphere in Vegas that weekend. I'm 100% gonna be heading back out to Vegas for Mayweather Pacquiao, and i'm sure i'll be at Hayes first defence in London in April! Set to be good!

Pacman v PBF is going to be incredible.

Mayweather must be confident, I can't believe it's been agreed so quickly.

i rate mayweather very highly. But i honestly don;t see how he's going to deal with Pacquiaos attacks. i really don't. the speed and angles and constant pressure are too much. I don't know what he can do? Pacquaio was walking onto a stronger Cotto's best shots unaffected. How is Mayweather going to have a hope of hurting him? I think Mayweather is relying too much on the fact he shutout Marquez, who ran Pacman close twice, and may be thinking he can do the same to Pacquiao. My moneys on the Pacman by late stoppage anyway!

I honestly think thta Mayweather is trying to appear confident, but will find some reason for the fight to not happen as his get out clause, so he can say he did want the fight and so people can't say he ducked Pacquiao. We'll see!

I think the sums of money being talked about will definately get him in the ring, hell, i'd get in the ring with PacMan for £10k hehe

The thing with Mayweather, like it or not, he can shut out pretty much anyone not willing to get on the inside quickly, which is why Hatton had 'some' joy early on.

I think he'll tire PacMan out, absorb what he's throwing, tie him up without expending too much energy or getting hurt, then try and nick it on points mid to late rounds.

I can't stand him but he's a class act.

agree that pbf will try to nick it by backpeddaling all night.undoubtedly the superior boxer and he makes fewer mistakes to be capitalzed on than manny.for the record i see mayweather frustrating manny over the first half of the fight and manny`s volume taking over the latter stages.i can see manny winning a close points victory and then floyd pulling a b-hop and bleating about the decision.floyd`s strengths here are his surgeon like accuracy and defensive ellusiveness.paquiao`s strengths here are workrate, power and angles of attack at close quarter fighting.can he get close??

I would put my money on Floyd as this match up should suit him perfectly. He's fighting a guy who is going to be coming at him all night long- ideal for his style surely? I would love to see Manny getting in there and making it close, but I worry Floyd will be too quick. Seems crazy to say as Manny is impossibly fast, but Marquez was fast enough to box toe-to-toe with him and outbox him for 11 rounds in the first fight and get a very unlucky split decision in the second fight. Fear that Floyd v Manny could be in the same mould as Floyd v Marquez. Manny does have Roach though, and is probably another step up from Marquez, so hopefully we'll be in for a much needed boxing classic.

however, manny is(as proven against cotto)really in his groove at welter.marquez spent 13 years as a featherweight, couple of fights at super then it`s only in his last TWO fights that he has jumped to light welter(against diaz) and then welter(mayweather).the marquez that fought pbf was not the same fighter who faced manny a few divisions down in 2004 and early 2008.floyd is famous for handpicking opponents and it was plain to see that marquez was way past his sell by date at this point.
i suppose the real question is this..can floyd take the heat fighting someone who isn`t past it or too small to hurt him for 12 hard rounds???i can`t wait to find out.!

Yep, very fair point about the moving up in weight, which is perhaps what has been most impressive about Pacman's recent success as he seems to carry his speed and power throughout all divisions in which he fights. I still lean towards Mayweather though as Pacman gives him the opportunity to fight exactly how he likes to... unless Freddie Roach works some magic of course. It will also be interesting to see how Mayweather takes a punch from Manny (though I see him being faster I can't imagine 12 rounds without getting clocked once). Floyd can take a punch but not sure he's been hit with the power of Pacquaio before?

i think people are thinkign about floyds reflexes when they think about his speed. i was at pacquiao cotto, and when manny threw those combos it really was a blur of hands. it's so amazing to see in front of your eyes. i think he's as quick as Floyd. Floyd doesn't throw big combos anyway.

For the people who are comparing them based on Marquez as i predicted smile If we are going down that route, how about the fact that it took mayweather 10 rounds to get rid of Hatton compared to Pacquiaos's 2 rounds? Also, de la hoya took Floyd to a close split decision and Manny had him out of there in 8 rounds. But again, you can't really use those for comparison, as styles make fights!

that shoulder-up defence of your chin thing that mayweather does is very "archie moore".paquiao smashes away at anything in front of him.face, body, arms, shoulder, neck, head, gloves etc. remember what marciano`s(much less skillfull than manny`s) overwhelming workrate did to the old mongoose?
i think if many keeps banging away at anything he can hit then floyd is going to tire, he`s not going to be able to stay tucked up all night.at some point he will have to let his hands go and herein(i hope!)is how manny could break him down.

But then you cannot compare the Oscar PBF fought, to the one Manny did, oceans apart.

Hatton, well, I think we all believe his lifestyle has finally (and sadly) caught up with him, and he too was not the same man who PBF fought.

Whatever way you look at it, you can never judge a fight on who has fought who before, just too many factors to consider.

PBF was prepared to take on what was considered at that point, a prime Hatton, and a big Oscar.

PBF is class, even if he does tend to avoid some fighters in their prime.
