Hoping the Raiders trade down a few picks and take a WR like Beckham or Lee, then maybe a corner in the second and a QB in the third.
It's looking likely that Mack, Clowney and Watkins will be gone when the Raiders pick and Johnny Football is far too big of a risk to waste a first rounder on (for the Raiders at least).

Interested by this - I've head a lot of people say that JM is a risk - aren't they all risks? Looking at earlier drafts - Tim Tebow - 1st round pick - now mowing the lawn. Richard Sherman - 5th round - just got a deal from Seattle as the highest paid CB in the league.
I can see why the Raiders wouldn't want to pick him thouigh - after all the hype around signing Matt Schaub it would be surprising if they then go for a top QB with their first pick...

Depends. Andrew Luck, not a risk. Peyton Manning, not a risk. Ryan Leaf, Tim Tebow etc.. big risk. JM could be another Tebow, or he could be another Russell Wilson....Best QB to ever play the game was picked in the 6th round with the 199th pick of the draft, 6 QB's picked ahead of him. Anyone remember Giovanni Carmazzi or Chris Redman?

It's a question of whether a player can step up to the NFL pace as well as take on the slightly different rules, bigger playbook and maybe have to play in a different style of offense. JM has the skills in terms of arm, speed and accuracy, but not least because of his lack of size, he's considered a bigger risk for teams that aren't already playing the kind of game/offensive tactics he's used to. And that would be the Raiders. Looking at earlier drafts - Tim Tebow - 1st round pick - now mowing the lawn. Last year, Pryor and McGloin both had issues with passes being tipped and getting the passes off in time. I'm not surprised Oakland are said to be eyeing up a 6'5" QB prospect.
As for Schaub ... maybe if they'd taken a QB from a team that hadn't ended up with #1 pick in the draft from last year's season, I'd have a bit more confidence.
I'll be *very* surprised if he makes it to wk9 as the starter.All I can see at the moment is Mackenzie and Allen looking to buy in players/talent to turn the team around and imho, that momentum needs to come from the team motivation and ultimately the coaching staff.

I say he's a risk because any rookie QB is a risk for the Raiders as they rebuild, they don't have a settled offensive line so we don't know how well they are going to protect the QB. If recent years are anything to go by the answer to that is, they wont. An experienced QB (even one who struggled last season) is more accustomed to NFL level pressure and should hopefully deal with it better than a rookie.
Additionally, there's a lot less expectation on a defensive player like an outside pass rusher who you can select on the basis of their physical abilities and be fairly sure they will succeed. The Raiders need to select players high who are most likely to be immediate impact players.
Dallas are mental for passing on Manziel. Perfect long term QB to replace sir chokes-a-lot and a blank slate they could mould to the team.
Still, sure he'll have a glory filled career at the browns.
Seriously though, good for the browns - they've played a blinder on this years draft. Packers pick is interesting, certainly sensible.
Longer term I think Denver got one of the best there (aside of clowney going to the texans) - Roby is a legend in the making, just needs grabbing by the scruff of the neck and putting on the right path with no more stupid stuff like bar fights in his life. Hes done some brilliant stuff at OSU, capable of much more too.
Still, sure he'll have a glory filled career at the browns.

Okay, so I'm reasonably hopeful with the Raiders picks. Picking youngsters to back up the vets on Defense and hopefully build a strong unit. The problem last season wasn't so much with the abilities of the defense, as they were just worn down by spending so much of the game on the field.
I think Derek Carr is going to find himself starting a lot sooner than Matt Schaub might imagine.
But ...
It still leaves the problem of a productive (or not so) offense. In the second half of the season it seemed the O-line was finally crystallising from the constant injuries earlier but even when whichever QB was on target, there was a noticeable lack of receivers getting free - the one big exception being TE Rod Streater who was doing a pretty sterling job. And don't get me started on McFadden. Unless they can stop trying to run him at/through the line and make best use of his hands.
Still looking forward to Wembley though!
