Just watched the entire English rugby team singing the national anthem pre-game. Can anyone remember a time when the entire English football team did the same?

The difference between the two is the brain that appears to be present in most rugby players.

I don't think you can really say one is any more committed than the other. Why do you think a rugby player feels more pride than a football player?

They probably would sing it, if we gave them a sheet with the words.

I don't watch much Rubgy - maybe 4 or 5 matches a year but putting the national anthem issue to one side, I'm always amazed at how little crap they give the referee. Decisions are always accepted and the game moves on. There is also very little acting or simulation (Well with the exception of the odd fake blood incident). Great to see.

Because for a Rugby player, representing your nation is as high as it gets. For a footballer, representing your club takes precedence.

The main reason for the lack of crap given to the ref is the threat of advancing the penalty 10m for backchat. Something you learn very quickly not to do! Not sure I can imagine the average footballer (round ball) understanding that - I reckon you'd probably march the freekick the length of the pitch!

It would be easy for the FA to clamp down on that nonsense, BUT I fear they like the full page spreads in the newspaper with disputed decisions, etc.

English Rugby players are paid realistic amounts. English AVERAGE footballers are paid obscene amounts! That is the difference!

What does that have to do with pride? Does salary have an inverse relationship to pride?

Do you watch England play football? When do you last remember them playing well? Compare that to the rugby side. The footballers are far to concerned with there pay cheques, flashy motors, women, than showing pride in the job they do!

Im not a huge footbaall fan so could be wrong but I have the impression that football players no longer care as much in representing ther country as perhaps they once did.

Did you see the game today?

Well, I'm out. This is going to be a Rugby good/football bad borefest. Predictable. Why is it always rugby folks that start these?

You disagree?

I don't think international caps have the same meaning to players as they did several years ago. Look at the number of players who pull out injured just before an international to then only miraculously recover for the next club game. Then we have the early international retirees who do so to prolong their club career.

They don't even play with the same passion or to the same intensity when wearing their England shirt.

Anyway, it's just an observation.

Once again! Well said! It sickens me how certain English footballers act as players, role models and people.

Threads that generalise like this aren't worth the effort, in my opinion, it's always easier to bang on about what wkers footballers are because there are so many in the public eye. It's a vastly more popular game.

There are PLENTY of top lads playing Premiership football.

There wasn't really a problem with backchat before that rule was introduced...certainly nothing like we see in football.
