People bleat and moan about the price of the food outlets every year however 2 or 3 years ago the organisers introduced the period Tesco store and guess what, it sells Tescos sandwiches, pork pies, salads, drinks, water etc. etc. all at everyday prices. One can hardly criticise Goodwood when they have effectively provided competition to all of the high priced food outlets. Bottled water was 55p in Tescos yet still people were paying £3.50 for Hildon bottled water elsewhere.

Exactly. I'm amazed that they let it happen, but brilliant that they do.

Exactly. Buy at Tescos, enjoy the fact that you're buying in a fab 60s shop, then have a picnic! I brought a hamper and blanket, and my female-friend made some lemonade and put it in a lovely old bottle, so we had this:

Edit: We didn't drink all the Double Diamond, we shared a can and then the rest is for Dad for Christmas!

Didn't go this year but in the past have poured two cold cans of John Smiths into a thermos which stayed cool quite well til at least early afternoon, not too flat either. No doubt comments will now be made about the quality of the John Smiths to start with !

Seriously though, to save cash I take a packed lunch but "treat" myself to a steak burger sometime in the day. Motorsport/airshows just aren't the same without that onion/meat/bread/ketchup taste in ones mouth.

The area that they are definately ripping people off is the bar. These must be manned by temporary staff without adequate training. We were ordering ten pints at a time, and almost every pint was significantly short measured. Requests for a top up to a pint were usually baulked at if not flatly refused. Whilst they may be able to charge what they like for a pint, they can't/shouldn't sell short measures. The flimsy glasses had pint markings (that were rarely reached by the bar staff), but the speckled hen rigid glasses had no pint markings and were often handed over with >1" of head. I intend to contact West Sussex trading standards to see if they can get someone in next year to check that correct measures are being served.

On Sunday I bought a cheese burger from the Goodwood Organic stall at Madgwick. Overpriced at £6.70 for a pretty mediocre burger. The menus said that it included "fresh salad", earlier in the day they had lettuce and tomatoes. I was told they had run out of salad, then asked for £6.70. I queried this as the menu offering included salad. I was told by the staff that the salad was "complimentary". I queried it some more and was offered 30p off. Piss poor organisation/staff to not be able to deal with something so simple.

On a positive note I was picked up from the overflow campsite by a charming lady in a Goodwood Courtesy Car. We were waiting for a tractor, but she offered us a lift right to the front gate. These are the kind of things that restore your faith, only for the bar / catering staff to ruin it.

Oh, and there was some quite good racing. wink

And just to contrast that I was in the Spirfire bar on Friday lunchtime, it was heaving yet there were planty of staff working quickly and efficiently to handle the crowd, copin with the varoius requests for spirits and mixers, wine, juices etc. along with the pints. Despite being behing about 3 deep I was served a decent pint of Golden Hen within 5 mins. So easy I'd have willingly had a few more if I wasn't driving smile

Take your own food. I always do.... Have done for YEARS!!!! Especailly as I do all three days, I spent (just under) £20's on food in Sainsburys on the Thurday beforehand. I take my own bottled water and flask of hot water and tea bags.... ;-) ;-) ;-)

Well I travel from the London-Kent border to GW on a daily basis. I make my picnic fresh each morning, pack that and beer /wine into a 4-icepack 25l cool box and carry that from Car Park A to Lavant. I also have the thermos (for morning use) in my ruck sack and a pair of comfy chairs over my free shoulder. I haven't tried taking tea bags and getting a hotwater refill from a van for the afternoon --- YET wink

I live in Chichester. The Motor Circuit is about 2.5 miles from my house. I cycle each day. So the food I buy is in my fridge. ;-)

Book the usual barn at Mrs Grays in Compton. Send the girls out to restock on Friday and Saturday whilst they are shopping in Chich and then make up yer cooler bag of stuff at 6am in the morning, so you are the circuit for 7-7.30am.

Impressed at a cpl of families we encountered on Madgewick banking this yr, they had camping stoves up and going before we got there, getting their own full English breaky sorted! Thats a bit too hardcore for us, breaky sausage bap and cup of tea in the Aero club does us. Still, got to be impressed at the effort.

But seriously though, why *wouldnt* you do your own sarnies and cooler bag for this sort of event??

Simply because we stay at a hotel with only a small drinks fridge in the room which is why I asked about keeping it fresh. One couldn't make sarnies on Thursday evening and expect them to still be edible on Sunday hehe So far it seems those who do it either travel daily from home or have kitchen facilities.
