Had my first experience of the Goodwood Revival on the supposedly 'quiter' day of Friday. The racing, cars on display and atmosphere with so many people dressed in period outfits was great (those 1950's GP cars - fantastic).

Shame that the organisers have got greedy and oversold this. I would say that there are 20% too many tickets sold detracting from what could be such a good event. Such a pity that like most other things it has just become a mass of people, queues and frustation just trying to walk about the place!

If you got rid of the minority who just turn up in jeans and hoodies then it what probably be about right.

The early days were the best.

Fest of Speed is now a no-go for me. Turning into a 'to be seen' event all about VIP areas, champage and what you are wearing rather than a passion for motorcars IMO

Love the effort people put into period dress for Revival, hope my friend had a cracking time there!

I didn't go this year, but have thought they were selling too many tickets for a few years now.

Friday has always been my day of choice, although not so much racing. The last time I went on a saturday it was scary busy in places.

When they wanted to turn the FoS in to the "Henley Regatta of motorsport" was about the time I gave up on it.

Of the two I much prefer the Revival to the FoS. I was at the Revival on Friday and thought that it was pretty good in terms of numbers. I was there pretty much all day from 7.30am and don't think that I queued for anything. Plenty of great trackside views as well, particularly when walking all the way around.

I did pay £12 for egg, beans and mushrooms, a bread roll and a mug of tea though grumpy

If you don't want to pay for the food, bring your own, as for the crowds, I was there yesterday and had absolutely no problems with the crowd, was just right I thought. To me it was a perfect motor day

Yup, I was there from 8-6 yesterday and there were no queues where I was! only a 5 mins queue to get out of the carpark and thats about it, you just need to know where to go! (mainly avoid the paddock area and head out back!)

Well having been to the Le Mans 24hrs race a number of times and now 3 days of Revival for the first time I can say for for certain that I'll be making the effort to get back to the Revival year on year.

I actually never found it busy. Maybe I've not been spoilt by quiet events previously but I found it perfectly manageable and thoroughly enjoyable in its entirety.

My only complaint would come from this morning where the traffic on the A27 (I think) was at a standstill in the left hand lane because the inconsiderate barstewards in the right lane kept zipping up the outside and then forcing their way into the head of the queue meaning it took us 1hr to cover 900yds. I was in the circuit 5 mins after passing the issue it was just the traffic caused by the right lane tts.

I was at the Revival today and thought it was absolutely perfect in every way.

I think the issues is how they manage future years to come as its only going to become more popular.

As a member of the Harristockracy, LM should know that Brits do not stand for other country's national anthem! Let his enthusiasm, as self-appointed head of the Dan Gurney fan club, run away with him a little. Still at least sis just voiced the Dan Tribute film and didn't sing this year !

Thought the Dan Gurney tribute was overdone and took too much time away from watching racing. There were I think 4 parade laps of the tribute cars with speeches in between.

PMSL...that was the chatter amongst everybody around us! Everybody was dreading that he was going to let sis sing the Yank national anthem!

As it was I think we all got away without sis singing on Sat and Sun this year!

It is no doubt a great event as every post on here points out but why spoil it by selling so many tickets? Surely they could financially balance it with 10% less.

'Too busy' is relative - if you are used to travelling into London on the tube every day then the Revival is fine. If like me you like to enjoy walking around without constantly weaving and dodging masses of people then it spoils the event.

Despite all this I still enjoyed the fabulous old racing cars and dressing up but probably would not return.

Highlights
- Getting Dan G to autograph a collage of his career (together with Jackie Stewart, Stirling, Bob Bondurant, John Surtees and Tony Brooks)
- Whitsun Trophy
- Both St Mary's races
- The Silver Arrows both on Track and up close
-The young thing in the Union Jack bustier hidden under a RAF
greatcoat (not a pervert just an enthusiast!)
- The vintage bintage (my god there are some very well preserved examples wink) and the flighty young things!

Lowlights

-Traffic management from the A285, all the way from Selhurstpark
Road seemed ill thought out
-The placing of canteen tables in the middle of the metal walkway
in 'across the road' - created a bottleneck needlessly
-More thought needed to prevention of bottlenecks in paddock by
badly placed standss, exhibits, etc. (basic crowd safety)
-The 'nobs' rugrat pedal car race - ultimate in self indulgence. Run it on Thursday on the drive before your cricket match, Charlie; not when paying customers want to see motor sport.
- The tribute speech to Dan, abuse of a captive audience (Come the revolution....). The parade was fantastic tho'

As quipped by a couple near us:

"Is he still alive then?"
"He won't be by the end of this speech."

It was busy, but great fun.
