What is it with the food comments/complaints all the time???? It's Goodwood, the food prices have always been high.
You're there for the racing FFS.

Had a great time on Saturday. The cars where stunning. Need lots of money to buy nice racing cars now !

Food prices not that bad. Wasn't like it was burger van food. Needed more staff at the food venues. Was very slow getting fish and chips and so one and was disappointed the one of the bars had run out of Goodwood beer. frown

But other then that. Was great lots of space to walk about lots of things to see and lots of people to talk too. Goodwood events are always so good as you can wonder about the pits and talk to celbs.

On saturday I was on site 14 hours so ate all 3 meals. I didn't have dinner there on Sunday.

Coffee and Bacon Roll for breakfast was £9
Burger, chips for lunch was £10
Plate of (admittedly good) food for dinner was £12.

Add on a few beers at £4.50 a pop and some £2.50 coffees it is really getting expensive. Taking a family of 4 will be over £100 a day.

As mentioned above, having to queue for 15 minutes to be told they'd run out of food wasn't brilliant!

Besides this I had an amazing weekend, it won't stop me going and I accept it comes with the territory but £70 for food on top of the £120 ticket price is an awful lot.

May I suggest for about £40 plus food and then youcan use it every year ;-)

I went on Saturday and it was magic. One of the best days out I can remember. I left in awe of how the estate can create such great events. Much more enjoybale than recent FoS and Revivlas, mostly because of the more sensible numbers.
I had a sort of 'post Goodwood' comedown yesterday wondering what is next after that....

Fantastic weekend, with so many highlights. I wasn't sure what to expect with the post-race party, but even that had so much to enjoy from the grannies on shopping trollies to the brass band version of Ace of Spaces.

The only downside with it being so successful is that it's almost inevitable that they will become more and more popular, and will lose that intimacy that made this weekend so enjoyable.

Awesome weekend
Everything perfect it made it certainly feel a very special event. (but agree the demos could have been a bit more exciting certainly the sundays Lemans were much faster than Saturday)
Top Job Goodwood.
Couple of questions though which Im sure wont be answered in the near future but Im sure its on others minds aswell

1. Were the number of people at the event what was expected?
(I know the low ticket sales at the beginning made it be opened up to others but, the low number also made it feel a more special event, more people would maybe take the exclusivity away from it but)

2. Will this event be added to the calander for next year?

Brilliant weekend and gorgeous weather. This is the link to my mobile phone photos on Flickr. As I haven't sorted out my photos yet.

What a fantastic event, brilliant. My biggest concern on Saturday morning was the sustainability of it, with a much smaller crowd than the Revival it just didn't look like there were enough people to cover the costs of such an ostentatious event. I was convinced it would end up being a one off. However, there were still thousands there on Saturday evening and it was clear that a lot was being spent on food and drink. Hopefully, the revenue from the catering will ensure there'll be a 73rd members meeting next Spring. There were a couple of minor issues with the catering, toast with full English would have been nice, Potato with lunch was resolved by Sunday, no doubt it'll improve next year. The food was tasty and the portions reasonable.

There are plenty of classic race days and festivals on the calendar but Goodwood is special, they really push the boat out to make these the premier events on the Motoring calendar. That means spending more which means charging more, if the food and drink guarantees the future of the members meet then I'll have another round please, barman.

I thought it was excellent. Price-wise it is expensive but you should see what it costs to go to a big music festival these days. I preferred it to the revival as it was fully focused on the cars. Unfortunately, the F1 and LM cars were very limited in speed. I spoke to Mike Wilds who had driven in the Le Mans parade and he said it was much slower than the cars could have achieved. I guess it would be dangerous to have just let them go.

So how many people didn't RSVP the evening entertainment but turned up anyway!

It's fair comment about the F1 cars having to go carefully, I was just surprised at how disparate the drivers performance was. The lead three or four cars were up behind the rear 'pace' F40 and trailing group rather quickly

Anyway, it was still great fun.
I think the front 4 cars were driven by younger pro drivers and the rest of them were driven by their older owners, who I assume pick up the bill when it goes pop.
Some of the cars seemed unwilling or were unable to rev up very far. The Alfa was as about as quick as that in period, as they say at Goodwood

For those who didn't go and are thinking of going next year - IT WAS RUBBISH!!!!!!

It was SO very expensive.

It took hours to get in and out of the extremely muddy car parks.

The cars were cheap and dull.
You were not allowed in the paddocks.

The racing was so very tame, nobody was trying.
The enormous run-off areas meant that you couldn't get near the action.
The huge crowds of the great unwashed meant that your viewing was very restricted.

The early season weather was predictably dreadful.

Do NOT even think of going if they hold a similar event in the future.
I hopefully will be one of the few people there having a fantastic time

The thing I really liked were the braziers/heaters outside the tea tent and dotted around the party area. One, they were very welcome when the temperature dropped but two, superbly, they weren't roped off and surrounded by H&FS signs warning you not to burn yourself! So refreshing! Good on you Goodwood!

Oh, and the racing wasn't too bad either!

I'd like to echo the comments in this thread and congratulate the Goodwood team. My son and I went on both days and had a fantastic time. We couldn't stay for Saturday evening as we had a family dinner to go to so can't comment on the catering then. We had breakfast in the Great Hall and although more than I'd normally pay it was very good, probably because Goodwood don't use cheapo bacon and sausage. You get what you pay for, as ever.

Having Houses to support was a bit of fun and not pushed too hard as some had feared. It did give some of the children there a bit of fun which was nice to see. Mark and I did the End of Term Test and although we both got some questions wrong, I got two house points for my French translation. Not bad for an O level obtained over forty years ago!

I just hope that Goodwood will continue with the Members Meetings, the small crowd and intimate feeling really made it special and we'll happily be there next year. Please don't oversell it and crowd it out,
I can't emphasise that too much. Crowd it and you'll kill it

Any GRRC member who didn't go and could have, will be kicking themselves for the 12 months and looking to buy tickets as soon as they come out

Can only echo what a lot of people have said here.

Fantastic event. Shame the demo runs weren't a little quicker as stated by most people I've spoken to or read about.

A few pics from me

Rest of the pictures here

Well done to anybody involved in setting this up, you should be very proud. You've made a lot of happy people!

What a great weekend! The racing was excellent throughout the weekend with some close battles through the field in every race. As to be expected at Goodwood the selection of entrants made for a wonderfully varied number of races and as predicted the saloons in the Gerry Marshall Trophy put on a great display.

Talking of displays what a pity the Ferarri F40 pace car was too slow for the Le Mans demonstration laps. One could see the Jaguar XJR-9s desperately urging it to go faster and watching them (and the F1 cars) was rather like watching pedigree race horses being held back on the leash and never getting a good thrash over the gallops.

The Saturday evening entertainment was certainly up to Goodwood’s usual high standard, the bands were excellent, street entertainment great and the fireworks were stunning! But I got the impression that more people went on Saturday because of the evening party and the caterers just got totally overwhelmed. Many of the smaller food outlets closed after the last race meaning the only place to eat was in the Great Hall or in the fun-fair area which seemed a bit odd… Anyway, another great Goodwood race meeting and if there's a 73rd I’ll be back!

The only real que I experienced was at the party as soon as it opened, due to all the bars closing before the party was opened I had to spend a whole 5minutes waiting to be served!!!! Shocking!

I think a lot of problems arise that a lot of people don't realise there is a circuit and not just a start finish line. We saw some great racing, spins and offs round the back of the track and when we wanted food or drink we were the only people in line smile
