You were obviously in the right place at the right time - on the start finish line laugh

I think a lot of problems arise that a lot of people don't realise there is a circuit and not just a start finish line. We saw some great racing, spins and offs round the back of the track and when we wanted food or drink we were the only people in line smile
Absolutely. We used the same strategy as at the Revival, made our way round the track to be at Lavant corner by lunch time. At 1:30 there were no queues and plenty of empty seats and tables.

Rach...I was going to ask if you were car 46, the green MGB, nut just checked back in the thread and you were smile You did indeed have an excellent race Sat evening! You were one of the cars I kept an eye on as your chaps looked spicy from the flag.

Too much to say really, but best summed up as the best event Goodwood has run in the last 20 yrs. Taking the Revival in its first 2 yrs, then adding the 70/80s Touring car race was brilliant!

The demo runs...Goodwood demo runs are always half pace chaps. The only time it really hasn't been was the JYS parade, where a few guys deliberately dropped back to then ping it. As it was...the F1 boys on Sunday, the Macca, 2 Reggies and Haas Lolas were superb. The F40 getting squirally to keep ahead of the out of the chicane was funny. Being on top of the pit for that was special. The Reggies sounded awesome.

The Le Mans parade was slower, fair enough but for the Matra V12 sound who cares? Forget all future debate about the best sounding vehicle engine, its won hands down quite simply by that Matra.

So...
the Moss trophy? Brilliant "junior" TT.
Patrick Motorsport & Triplex SD1s. Hands up who else was saying "my first Scalextrix set" ? And remembering Jeff Alam in full attack?
Pirro in the Capri on Saturday. Admit it lad...you dropped enough hints you did it on purpose smile

The star of the weekend though I think we can all agree beyond doubt...Quick Nick Swift.

Now can anybody answer how the fk you get a Mini to do a 1'33 ???????? For reference I think Rob Hall's quickest lap in the Breadvan was 1'32.

Oh, one last personal highlight for me...standing at the chicane for the Can Am boys. Bugger me! Can we give Chris Goodwin an M8F next yr please? smile

By only braking about twice over a lap, and keeping A LOT of momentum!

Yes that was us, Matt was on fire and said that on the start, the crowds parted and he went through. He had some great tussles out there and the car looked great on the big screens. Not bad for a little MGB!

I find it hard to imagine how the event could have been any better.

Nothing at Goodwood is cheap, that's because its jolly well perfect!

What a fantastic event, brilliant. My biggest concern on Saturday morning was the sustainability of it, with a much smaller crowd than the Revival it just didn't look like there were enough people to cover the costs of such an ostentatious event.

There are plenty of classic race days and festivals on the calendar but Goodwood is special, they really push the boat out to make these the premier events on the Motoring calendar. That means spending more which means charging more, if the food and drink guarantees the future of the members meet then I'll have another round please, barman.

I agree with all of that except concern over the sustainability of it. Remember...

1. It must have cost a great deal less that the Revival to stage.

2. Each ticket, on a daily basis anyway, yielded 50% more than a ticket on a corresponding day at the Revival.

3. Despite beefs (excuse the pun!) about food and drink prices by some here, clearly they were not expecting anything like the level of demand and sporadically ran out of various items, suggesting that they were expecting less numbers/demand.

4. Repeating such an event with the benefit of having learned from the first one, is much easier, more efficient and more cost effective

5. With almost universal praise and acclaim, it's a certainty that whatever the ticket sales numbers were this year, they will be greater next year. If you take all those who have said how much they enjoyed it, add those whom they told and those who have openly expressed regret at not attending this one, it would be madness not to repeat the exercise.

IF it turned out that some of the economics were a bit marginal. personally I would be fully supportive of this week-end being repeated down to the last detail EXCEPT for the party/fireworks.

So in summary, Im suggesting that this was sustainable and for these and other reasons connected with adding value to the annual GRRC membership benefits, is very repeatable smile

For those who didn't go and are thinking of going next year - IT WAS RUBBISH!!!!!!

It was SO very expensive.

It took hours to get in and out of the extremely muddy car parks.

The cars were cheap and dull.
You were not allowed in the paddocks.

The racing was so very tame, nobody was trying.
The enormous run-off areas meant that you couldn't get near the action.
The huge crowds of the great unwashed meant that your viewing was very restricted.

The early season weather was predictably dreadful.

Do NOT even think of going if they hold a similar event in the future.
I hopefully will be one of the few people there having a fantastic time

winkwinkwinkwinkwinkwinkwinkwinkwinkwinkwinkwinkwinkwinkwinkwinkwink
Thank god I'm not the only one! It was bloody awful!

Hugely over crowded, terrible selection of cars and THE WEATHER WAS AWFUL.

I can only echo your sentiment. If Goodwood hold a 73rd Members' Meeting I cannot describe with words how much you definitely 100% shouldn't go.

Dear Goodwood team,
From someone who really has to think about spending between £70/£120 on a day out, I just wanted to say it was well worth it. My main reason for going was to see the F1 cars, Le mans cars, Group b rally cars and classic touring cars, I certainly wasn't disappointed. I loved the fact it was access all areas, also it was good to see 95% of people making the effort with their attire. Food was really good and to eat on the table next to Rowan Atkinson and Sterling Moss was brilliant. I loved the caravan dukebox, in my opinion the best thing there in the evening.
My only complaint which is pretty minor was that some of the toilets were quite dirty.
It was good not to have to sit in traffic for ages and not have big crowds, im still going to the festival of speed though.
Thanks for a good day out

From memory I paid about £50 for a Saturday Revival ticket (maybe even a bit less with the Club discount). For this event I definitely paid £75 for the Saturday only ticket. The £75 ticket being 50% more than the £50 ticket.

The dukebox was my favourite (dancing to Run DMC!) and regarding toilets, the shell building had some very nice brand new toilets fitted in preparation for hosting the 70s bar recreation. The bar was also totally awesome, BTW. Had a couple of pints in there sat by the window watching the track.
