It has been promoted as a membership perk.
And one which all non-members are paying for by losing the March breakfast club.

Well obviously not in that way but in that I consider the Breakfast Clubs a Goodwood event that everyone can enjoy, members or not - only we can't in March!

"You non-members" - A bit presumptuous and indictaive of the comments further up this thread?

Ah well that's life I guess. I'm really looking forward to this event, should be great not being crowded and with some exciting racing and no corporate Hooray Henrys. Rather like the early Le Mans Classics before everyone latched onto them as an alternative to the beer festival that masquerades as the 24 Hours. biggrin

During the course of my work this morning I encountered a young lady who works at Goodwood and is involved in the running of the motor-sporting events.

She said that the Members Meeting looked like it was going to be great fun. She reckoned that the end of the day bonfire party would be terrific and that during the day lots of little fun inter-house activities and amusements were planned, like; egg & spoon race, sack race, darts, tug-of-war and generally entertaining stuff with most of the house points going on the on-the-track races.

She said at one time they'd considered having a strip-club (!!) but had decided that it wouldn't be in good taste. Depends on your point on view I suppose.

Bear in mind that my informant was just involved in general conversation and wasn't selling or talking-up Goodwood, it certainly does sound like we might be in for a good, good time.

Can't wait.

Sounding good, I just checked that my hotel is booked for both Sat and Sunday, which it is so it looks like hot dogs round the bonfire on Saturday and a posh meal on Sunday before driving home on Monday morning biggrin

Presumably thay have also considered having a "School Dinners" type restaurant, a spanking area and fagging too. Presumably no women are allowed entry either.

I have had my doubts about the Goodwood events for a few years now and the rather silly ideas now being mentioned in the press, along with the houses and house captains public school-like snobbery, are enough to convince a simple pleb like me that Lord March and me are finished.

I find it interesting that an event that ....

" is intended to be both stylish and relaxed, an informal yet smart event, with everyone expected to respect a dress code accordingly. Gentlemen will be required to wear jackets and either a tie, cravat or polo-necked sweater at the event. Ladies are also encouraged to wear smart clothing. Blue jeans, t-shirts, low cut or revealing tops, shorts, short skirts, flip-flops, sportswear, baseball caps and heavily branded clothing are strongly discouraged, as are costume or fancy dress. "

Had considered " an egg & spoon race, sack race, darts, tug-of-war "

Don't get me started on the dress code stuff it's going to be wet and cold.

Jacket and Tie + Tug of War ... right jester

Interesting, as you say it will be cold at the end of March but then it goes on to say... "As it is an open air event, comfortable shoes and casual clothing is best. Always bring some wet weather clothing as the British weather can be unpredictable!"

I'm dressing to the weather. I think the key line is strongly discouraged which to me says they won't turn you away.

If it's cold or wet I'm wearing a raincoat which really won't go with jacket and tie.

The on track stuff looks good. The off track stuff is what's stopping me at the moment. I had no tolerance for school type stuff when I was at school. I was someone who couldn't wait to leave school, I have no desire to re live those days now. I think this may be a 'shark jump' by Goodwood.

On the other hand it may just be an excellent way of encouraging people to hang around after the racing on Saturday for some live music, food and fireworks. Like you I'm not particularly interested in an egg-and-spoon race but live jazz, hog roast and a massive bonfire and fireworks, which knowing Goodwood will be excellent, does appeal. Anyway, my wife and I are going so we'll see smile

The evening entertainment does look good, I'll have to agree on that yes.
