Supercar Sunday 4 May 2014
Discussion
As the owner of the ferrenzo 360 (kit) mentioned earlier in the post, I can not disagree with some of the comments.
Mine is not a Supercar, but it is still allowed in, and still makes 2 year old boys smile....and when Dad's read the information on the screen stating what it actually is, it makes some of them smile as well.
Certain cars appeal to certain people.
Personally, I'm not a BMW, Porsche or Audi fan but they are all nice to see; and I appreciated that others are.
If Goodwood ever change the rules certain cars will be excluded, but until then the 15000 or so people could enjoy them all !
And if they don't change the rules, I'll see you next year - it was a great day.

There's always the Goodwood official list, as in what's allowed in the supercar parking area at the FOS - http://www.goodwood.co.uk/downloads/fos/2014/super...
I think they got the Supercar Sunday bang on this year - in previous years when you just turned up, you were at the whim of a marshall knowing his arse from his elbow. One year I went in my NSX and made it past the first marshall at the main entrance (who was busily waving all sorts of other stuff straight on to go & park in the field), then there was another guy who determined if you go right and park by the Tesco building, or left and go onto the grid/paddocks. He obviously liked Astons as a good dozen or so Vantages were waved grid-ward, whilst Porsche UK's own 997 GT2 and a rather splendid RS200 were sent into the plebs car park. Needless to say, words were had with the main man, and they tootled back out and onto the grid
Anyway, the Supercar Sunday theme is just that - the main attraction. It shouldn't preclude there being other nice/interesting/rare cars there, as long as they are appropriately sectioned.
It's cool that they opened up the track all the way up the Lavant straight so they could accommodate more cars than most people would wish to see. And having been to a few of these before, along with Wilton, PHSS etc, I have to confess to getting a bit blasé - oh look, another 458, another £100/200+k car that's somebody's P&J but it's the 10th one I've seen today. Allowing in some stuff that's a bit unusual just makes it all the more special.
I went with a friend who'd never been to Goodwood before, and he was blown away - by the variety, and his favourites were the E-types. Is a V12 auto series III a supercar? Maybe not, but it's still worth a look for some people.
I'm pretty sure the Goodwood list changes on a yearly basis to offer a variety of metal.I think they got the Supercar Sunday bang on this year - in previous years when you just turned up, you were at the whim of a marshall knowing his arse from his elbow. Not sure why I'm bothered, my car was washed and ready to go however we went to a friends for dinner Saturday night and of course I wasn't going to have too much to drink.......
Erm, I woke up whenever it was, looked at my watch and simply said 'bks, too late'
Ah well, next year I suppose, looks like I missed a brilliant morning and thanks to all who did manage to get to the circuit to show their cars

The wife and I parked up the car on Sunday in the paddock and walked to the main entrance to watch the cars arrive. There were a group of six 10-11 year olds and kids don't lie! "That's not a Supercar, neither is that, that's not either" They were pointing out the Datsun Cherry GTR's ( all 50 of them) the BMW Z4's et al, the boxsters ( I ve got two and they ain't supercars) the Audi RS, standard 996, Vauxhall UTEs, I mean Monaero or whatever it's called.
It's called Supercar Sunday and its got too many people kidding themselves, nobody wants to stand and look at a bloody boxster on Supercar Sunday. They do a soft top Sunday, a German Sunday, a Japanese Sunday etc etc. Yes goodwood gave out the passes but it's up to people to exercise some common sense. There was an MR2 based 360 on the grid and an F40 and Diablo GTR parked a mile away at the far end of the line up!
Someone is gonna call me a snob, NO, if I go to a good Italian restaurant I don't want Fu@in Sushi, I like Sushi but I went to an Italian. Everyone should come along and have a great day, which it was but should park in the carpark not fill the grid with Datsuns and 996 C2's. I mean even the Porsche guys don't need to see that, hence the prices ha ha!
It's Supercar Sunday.......not Reader Wives!!
The Wikipedia definition of Supercars is as follows and 95% of the cars there fitted this criteria. It's called Supercar Sunday and its got too many people kidding themselves, nobody wants to stand and look at a bloody boxster on Supercar Sunday. 'A supercar (also known as exotic car) is a very expensive and fast sports car.[1][2] Supercars are marketed by automakers as unusual and include limited production specials from an "elite" automaker, standard-looking cars modified for power and performance, as well as models that appeal to enthusiasts from smaller manufacturers.[3]'
Regardless, for me it was the Plymouth Superbird that stole the show. I think the organisers are right to try and appeal to more than those who want to see endless stream of Ferraris and Lambos, some of which are looking nauseatingly tasteless, these days.
Great show, very busy but still worthy, well done again to LM and all the staff.
As for all the snobbery on here about what is and what isn't, get over it!
It's a public show for everyone and we ain't all on mega salaries but we do appreciate 'super cars' hence the turnout.put a limit on what is considered by some to be worthy supercars and it would end up a 10 car pub meet!

Not snobbery, just trying to protect the ethos of this type of event. I am old enough to remember the Chelsea cruise. The Hotrod guys said its a Hotrod meet, but it was getting infested by the hot hatches of the day, they took over, it doesn't exist anymore, everyone misses it. I didn't have a Hotrod but attended because that's what I wanted to see. I parked around the corner and walked. As for all the snobbery on here about what is and what isn't, get over it!

We are all petrol heads, so the semantics which surround what is or isn't a Supercar is not convincing. We all really know.
Rossa,
Nowt directed at you my friend, you have a truly wonderful car in the Testarossa, but as comparison, 0-60 5.3secs, 380 odd bhp and a flat out at around 180, nigh on the exact same as an XKR yet it seems I should not be on the circuit as it's not expensive enough nor Italian/German or a mixture of both!
With the development of the last few decades 'super car' performance now comes in many guises and is affordable for the masses. As I said if we start defining supercars to, say sub 4 seconds, then you, i, and probably 80% of the others would not have gained entry.

No offence taken HaylingJag, we are all car people at the end of the day, just giving my two pence worth Nowt directed at you my friend, you have a truly wonderful car in the Testarossa, but as comparison, 0-60 5.3secs, 380 odd bhp and a flat out at around 180, nigh on the exact same as an XKR yet it seems I should not be on the circuit as it's not expensive enough nor Italian/German or a mixture of both!

The Lark car departs.
This is the only downside I can see. When an owner wants to leave, it's very time consuming and filled with people wanting to get that last picture. The marshalls don't appear to be anywhere to help either. I imagine slow crawling in a F1 is also wallet battering with those clutches...
