Hints and tips for FOS
Discussion
We went for the first time today*. Having been to Supercar Sunday I knew that arriving early was critical, so we timed it to get there by 7:30. There was virtually no queuing to get parked or in the gate (we were at Car park A I believe, near to the helicopter area). We left about 6:30pm and wasn't too bad getting out though we ended up going home a totally different route at least it was moving.
If you don't like queuing for drinks, try some of the smaller coffee/tea wagons around the back of the start line area rather than the more obvious bigger stalls. I usually expect coffee to taste like mud at motorsport events, but it was really decent at the places we tried.
TIP: Don't bother waiting for the motorbike/cycle display event in the afternoon as too many people around to see/hear it properly...we got a better show when they were practising earlier in the day by standing down at the 'GAS' area (while my son went on the motorbike try out).
If you're interested in the land speed record attempt go to see the display area behind where the (full sized) model is located. We saw Richard Noble in there and all of the various suppliers were keen to talk about their involvement in the project, with demonstrations and things for children to do (handy if it is raining as it was when we were in there).
*It was a fantastic day, saw Murray Walker sitting near to us in BMW hospitality coffee area and he signed the children's autograph books, even though he was meant to be on a break. I also saw Sir Stirling Moss close hand signing books, etc nearer to the House (not sure what the area is called, but not far from the Sky hospitality building).
