The rally stage was terrible from Friday onwards. I went out on the stage on Friday in a mk2 escort and it felt like it was grounding out on half of it then. Still bloody good fun though. Sunday afternoon most of the cars bar LandRovers & WRC stuff had given up. Maybe Goodwood should look at re-surfacing it for next years FoS ? other than that if was another great year at Goodwood.
This was a shame as I decided to leave the rally until the last day (stayed at Racecourse campsite so not far) and then it was just a bit boring. It was still great to see just not the action packed stage I remember.

. No cheaper version that came without all the crap like a flimsy ear piece radio. Even just a sign post with the itinerary on would have been nice.
along with the smaller useful programme the radio is the only reason to buy a programme! didn't get one this year, as had an old radio which I thought still worked... looks like i need to buy a programme again next time..

Spent the Fri-Sun doing the show and got round everything but the GAS arena, which doesn't float my boat anyway.

Well put together, awesome show all round, problems on the climb and rally stage dealt with quickly and generally well presented.

Camped on site and can't praise enough the chap who appeared to be working 24hrs a day keeping the showers etc clean and tidy. My only grumble is the clumps of cut grass (I presume from the pitch marking) that gets everywhere!

Eclectic mix of people which I found amusing rather than an annoyance as I've seen on other threads. Nothing more amusing than seeing one of the blazer wearing hospitality set and a shirtless neck tattooed skinhead looking round the same automotive brands stand.

I was up by the start on friday morning, there was 1 conner near the end that was particularly bad.. I saw something fly through the air and wondered what it was, turned out to be a rock the size of my fist, could easily have hit someone, there were quite a few rocks flying on that corner!

Interesting comments - this was the only bit of the weekend that was slightly disappointing - I went up Saturday and Sunday morning and had a good look round the paddocks - on both days went into the stage only for it to be blocked after 3-4 cars had run - got bored of waiting for something to happen so went back down the hill - having said that I really loved the Audi boys who had come with the old support vehicles painted correctly to look like the 80's works team - a great effort guys!

I love spending time wandering the forest looking for photo ops - one of my favourite chill out/calm down bits of Goodwood, but it seems to be an ongoing problem the past few years - getting the exhibitors to actually drive the course.

Certainly the tannoy operator seemed a bit peeved late on friday. Some drivers are really good and seem to be doing runs all the time, but others you barely see at all.

Hopefully something will be done for next year if it's got bad enough, yeah they're rally cars and expect bumps etc but if a course is going to be causing unnecessary damage then they will not want to run.

We were at the stage on saturday and there was about have a dozen cars on constant rotation. A couple of classic shape imprezas and two Celicas. My first time seeing WRC cars live and it made an impression.

Maybe they do a shoot out like they do on the hill to encourage people onto the course.

Despite the wear on the course Loeb and Sordo were fantastic whenever they went out on the course during Sat/Sun. I suggested the shootout idea on the FoS facebook site. Next year is the rally stage 10th running so they should get as many WRC champs and run them in a set of identical cars (maybe an old MkII Escort and a modern WRC car) on theSat and Sun mornings - so as not to clash with the hill shoot out

One of the Mazzas got the the big prize, and for good reason, I thought one of them would get it but I was hoping it would be the cream one. I so liked that car for it's simplicity and elegance. The CS12 got best in class so I was more than happy with that.

Strangely enough, at the award ceremony the guy on my left took the first award, shortly followed by the guy on my right for the Lincoln Continental which was stunning followed eventually by the CS12 getting an award. Bearing in mind the ceremony was a big event this was statistically unlikely to happen and put us all on a big high.

A truly amazing weekend.

Don't know who won it but your car was stunning and was getting a lot of attention. Thanks for taking it along great to see TVR still there putting smiles on faces.

Well this year was my first visit to the Fesitval, and why i've never been before I don't know. What a truly spectacular event for a petrol head. Some of the engine noises left me with chills down my spine.

It was truly awesome to see Kenny Brack giving that McLaren F1 GTR a proper good thrashing. My ultimate dream car, and I never expected to see one being driven so quickly, and the noise of that V12!

As for the rally stage, it did get quite rough, particularly around the start and finish areas, but it's hardly a surprise when on Friday alone, they completed over 300 runs of the stage!

I will definitely be back next year, just hope it clashes with a few less motorsport events.

Here's a few of my clips from the Sunday.

The problem with the rally stage is at the start and finish has to be put back to grass as it is a car park for the horse racing the rest of the year so they cant tarmac it or grade it before they start on Thursday.

It wasn't that bad to be honest you could drive around the ruts and bumps. I should know I was driving a mini bus around it. Maybe it was the hang overs from Saturdays nights ball was the real issue.

Next year lets hope it does not clash with the WRC or BRC.

WRC yes but the absence of DS3 R3Ts is no loss! Unfortunately a clash in June is always likely as the FoS is set up to avoid F1 but be close to British GP week.

The date chosen was a bit silly... Same weekend as BTCC, BSB BRC and WRC.

That was very silly in my eyes.

They're always going to have that issue at this time of the year, the whole event hinges around the British GP and I can only assume that not having an F1 presence would cause far more issues than it would solve (sponsorship, famous names etc missing).

If anything those other series (particularly BTCC) missed out a bit by having a race weekend at the same time.

Agreed its an event that has been running over 20years. It is always aimed to be after Le Mans and before the British GP, so really it's the other race organisers that need to come into line. I would be interested to see if it has a direct influence on crowd numbers at the other events.

Date of the event has always seemed well chosen to me. Like so many of these thing, the action is better on TV than attending in person. However, it's nice to get there from time to time and soak up the atmosphere. Big event.

I have not been to FOS for 10 years, I took my 8 year old daughter on Saturday as a treat. I think the larger manufacturer stands were great, all offering something for the kids to do. She was walking round like a sponge all day, the Michelin science lab was great and the Thrust SSC captured her imagination (we are arranging a school visit!). She talked her way into one of the Arny recovery trucks and couldn't believe how high you sit to drive it.

She also loved the RC cars at land rover and BMW, the staff everywhere we're very child friendly which made the day for me as I was worried she wouldn't find enough to keep her interested.

I think it was a fantastic spectical which I will be taking the whole family too next year smile

Cheers
Jon

FoS cannot please everyone!

Its always the week before the British GP to attract the F1 teams. Its after Le Mans as the tradition is the top cars come, complete still with dirt.

Moto GP is always an issue, tho as its Assen some riders will fly over for Sunday, and in previous years BTCC hasnt clashed and lots of the drivers attend.
