My biggest regret of the year is not going to this.

A few more photos, couldn't stay long today, but the morning light in the paddock was worth it alone...

Well, I kind of enjoyed that. I'm a regular at the revival and have done the FoS before too, but the Member's Meeting felt a bit odd. The cars were great, of course, and access in the paddocks makes it even more interesting, but it was damn cold and it just didn't feel as friendly as other Goodwood events. I'm not a member, I'm a paying member of the public, maybe that was the difference. I didn't see many smiles, maybe that was the cold, but it didn't feel welcoming as I'd expected. My write ups on Goodwood events always seem to generate lots of interest on my blog, I'll do one for the MM too shortly, it seems this one is more about the (fabulous) cars more than the general occasion. Even the contrived race between the 3 Mercs was devoid of fun, it seemed to me. Anyway, glad I went.

See you at the Revival, smiling, pint in hand. smile
Wish i had known you were going Rich, would have been nice to meet up again

I went to both days of the 72MM and also both of the 73MM, and maybe it's because nobody really knew to expect about last year, I had the memory of it being more amazing that the Revival. This year, the bitter cold wind on Saturday took the edge off a bit of the enjoyment, but Sunday was much better weather-wise and the racing was just as good.

I'm already a little sad about the gentrification of the 73MM - last year, one of the tenets was that everyone was a member and everyone was in the same boat, so no hospitality, no reserved areas etc. We sat in the Hall at the table next to Lord March, Sir Stirling Moss etc.

This year? The Great Hall had a big reserved seating area, and the Old Control Tower is now the Governor's Enclosure, no riff raff allowed. Maybe it's just inevitable that there will be multi-tiered access & privilege but I thought one of the real differentiators between the MM and the Revival was the egalitarianism of the former.

Anyway, next topic? How about moving the event to May next year, so it's not so fooking cold?

Surely it was just the cold that tested people's mood. How would people have known you weren't a member?
I still found all of the staff very good. I'm not sure anything will ever have the excitement as the 72nd because that was the first for so many years, and felt that it could have been unique, now we pretty much know it will be another annual event.

I think it better than the Revival in some respects. Misses out on some of the period magic but it doesn't have the fancy dress randomness and it has none of the crowding.

Yes, I noticed this too. Polite but firm. Sorry Sir, private Grosvenor party with reserved Grosvenor parking next to the old control tower.

The price of the MM is about right, but as is the case at many of these events, the cost of food/coffee was eye wateringly expensive. We will bring a picnic next year in the forlorn hope that it will be warmer.

Great event apart from the "Gentleman Drivers" pedalling their bolides round the track at the speed of molasses. The right crowd size and no crowing.

Wonderful and easily established at THE Goodwood event to go to. It's just like the first cpl of yrs of the Revival. Improved this yr by ditching the Sprint that just didn't work last yr and telling the demonstrators to put their foot down. Helps of course when you put Pirro in Laudas 312 and Katso in his Lotus smile I did like the Hesketh driver wearing Hunts helmet, that was a nice touch smile

The lack of the period poseurs is sooo welcome, it instantly identifies what that thing about the Revival going downhill in your mind but couldn't quite put your finger on. Aha! The lack of the social tts!

The MM is a race meeting, out and out. Proper.

I think they could leave the grid walk out, leaves a long gap of nothing if you're out on the circuit, and the cars are available to view anyway in the paddock.
Loved the F1 and Group C's going for it, brilliant viewing.

From watching the live stream earlier it was James Hunts son driving his dad's old car, so even more correct. It was a good interview if it appears online later.

Basically all I'm going to say is that it was bloody awesome today! Personally I had a great time.

A couple of quick things though.

1.) Any chance of carrying some of that excellent catering over onto the Breakfast Clubs? Felt it really hammered home how rubbish the food is on a Sunday morning.

2.) Next year can we have some "skirted" 70s & 80s Formula Ones & some 70s Can-Ams please Lord March?

But only if I can get another very gratefully received free pass. wink

Another great day today, slightly warmer than Saturday, but that might of been due to the fact I wore a coat all day.

I've added the photos from today onto my existing album for the weekend here...

Still can't quite believe I've seen so many McLaren F1's in one place and them going though their paces on the track. Amazing !!
