£120/£130 for the weekend is cracking value if you ask me. You get a solid 12+ hours of entertainment per day. Attendance at a premiership football match is at least £60 and a visit to the ballet or west end show is a similar amount. If you want historic racing without the frivolity there are numerous circuits around the UK where this is available. What Goodwood does fantastically well is the frivolous extras that add to the atmosphere and complement the fantastic racing. I think a camping option would help at the meeting. I for one always struggle with accommodation even though I book 12 mnths in advance. With the Saturday entertainment going on till late camping would be ideal. It is a shame that more members have not attended what I expect to be an amazing weekend. I have done my bit and will be bringing three guests. Can't wait!!

How strictly is the dress code enforced, out of interest? The requirements on the site are pretty specific for men. I have no problem wearing trousers with a shirt and sweater, but technically that doesn't cut it apparently! I don't even own a cravat or polo necked sweater!
Personally I think it's not enforced as strict as it should be, whilst it is all about the racing it makes a refreshing change seeing one of the best dressed motorsports crowds in town.

You must own a tie though?

It's quite hard these days to get a cravat on the high street it's all online which is a shame, however I'm spoilt for choice as what to wear, cravat, tie, bow tie??

So if your really struggling I can lend you one.

Last year I wore jeans and a leather jacket.
It's you then that we were all talking about after the event!!

To be fair it's not a hard thing to conform to. And for which 90% of the crowd adhered too.

Must confess I don't recollect a dress code last year but then again I probably wore a tweed jacket or blazer. Can't remember... smile
There was indeed the same dress code for last year.

I am so looking forward to this as last year was excellent but I have torn muscles in my back and am struggling to move around, so I will be doing my very best to try and get myself a bit better so at least I can plonk myself in a seat and watch or lay flat out on the bank
There was plenty of deck chairs placed out last year. Hopefully your more mobile for next week.

I shall be very unhappy if I am barred from entry to the paddock because I don't look like a toff.

I spent a lot of money for a ticket so expect to be treated as an adult if I dress like one.

I don't own any Tweed,I'm an HGV driver FFS.
They are not asking you to look like a toff! All they are asking is that people dress smart and suggest because it's out in the open that country attire is probably the most suitable clothing for the event.

The vast majority of people myself and guests included, have a pair of chinos, a shirt and a tie is it really that hard to put it on? It's not fancy dress it's just smart casual.

Just leave the pantaloon de nimes at home for a day.

I Googled pantaloon de nimes.

I'm none the wiser but the first result was quite interesting to read....[The Chap]

Fairly sure I don't own any anyway.

I shall dress appropriately next weekend.
Denim wink

The paddocks don't have marshals at the entry points like the revival so you won't get ejected for the wrong neckwear.

The most important thing is that the racing is good and the entertainment is as good as last year. And maybe buy a car or 2 at the bonhams auction although I'm slightly annoyed that the auction is on whilst track action is happening.

What peeves me more at the Revival is the wearing of service dress. If you must do it then:

Wear appropriate footwear. Polished.
If the rig requires a tie, wear it. With your collar buttoned.
Headdress. Ditto. But not indoors.
Jackets/tunics. Worn buttoned or not at all. Flapping undone and open is not acceptable.
Medals. If not awarded to you, DO NOT WEAR THEM. [\end rant mode]
I'd disagree with the medals (although generally speaking they will just be medal ribbons) but at an event like the revival I don't think anyone will be assuming they are yours.

However the amount of people you see with an officer tunic and a junior ranks hat is crazy also the majority of uniforms have the queens crown rather than the Kings on the buttons.

But that's an argument for another day on the clothing of the revival. The best dressed are always the German/Italian police gents. Simply superb although I don't think you'd have seen them at Goodwood in the 50's but I think it's better seeing well presented people than people in jeans and a mclaren hat (on another note FOS I see so many his and hers in mclaren t-shirts and hats. Just why??)

Anyway shall we get back onto motoring issues and what we are looking forward to?

For me seeing so many F1 GTRs will be amazing along with seeing some type 35 bugattis racing again, last years 1 make race was brilliant so it's nice to see they're still able to participate in a different race.

I didn't eat in the great hall but I'm sure it was around £10 maybe slightly less for a meal. Me and my guest rotated through all the gourmet food vans that were there.

On the last day found a load of wagons on the infield at lavant and one of the vans was handmade burgers, wow I have never had a burger that nice and I think I paid £6-7 with chips and a bottle of pop. (And I've eaten a lot of burgers!)

Exactly HP!

I mentioned this last year - the idea is that the GRRC is an exclusive club; one of the caveats for a ticket to this event is the wearing of smart attire.

I you don't want to join in, then just fk off (now this is a rant!).

I don't see that what you do for a job has the slightest bearing on how you should dress at this event, I don't give a toss if you're a Bin man, a Surgeon, Admiral of the Fleet or a Poacher ffs, if it says no jeans and wear a chuffing tie, then that's what is required.

I think that this argument has more to do with people railing against what they perceive to be being told what to do more than anything else.

Jesus, the amount of people who need a cause to rally against is staggering!
+1

I was starting to think I was being an idiot for arguing the case of smart attire, I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who shares this view.

Thoroughly bummed out that the Merc shoot out is only happening on Saturday. I can only make Sunday and I was sure it was "suggested" that it would happen on both days.

Oh well. Its not like theres not loads more to see!
I actually thought this the other day when I saw the timetable but had a look for the article and couldn't find it. I assumed I had made it up.

And probably never to be seen again. At least we will recognise each other.

Now I know overnight parking is not allowed (I have at the last 5 revivals) but did anyone consume a tad too much alcohol last year and end up leaving their car in the field?

I've seen to my group that I will be designated driver again as I've stopped drinking but with some good news arriving yesterday I pm tempted to have a tipple and taxi back.

What do we think the morning traffic situation will be like?

Bear in mind racing starts at 9, will aiming to be there for 0830 be a terrible idea?

I can't recall if traffic is Revival standards of awful.
It's only 20,000 over the weekend compared to 148,000 for the revival. Last year we got to Chichester before I realised I'd left the badges at home in Fareham, a quick round trip meant we arrived as the track action started with the Group B. We drove straight in.
