I'm pleased to say I did make the effort and as a result, I was awarded Best Dressed Lady today. I'm more than a bit chuffed!

It was my first time at the Revival and I'll definitely go again. I'm so glad I made the effort with clothing (albeit fairly safe sports jacket / flat cap type deal - didn't need to spend a lot of money and just trawled local charity shops a couple of times in the weeks on the run up) but it made you really feel a part of it. Great to see the lengths that some folks went to though and some amazing stuff - some folks immaculately turned out in original WW2 military uniforms, etc. What a spectacle it all was.

I must admit I didn't really get the difference between 'fancy dress' and dressing in the spirit of the event. Having been today it's now fairly obvious and those in fancy dress costumes stood out far more than anyone in modern jeans and t-shirt.

Vey nice indeed smile

Rather puts my effort of some Castrol overalls from eBay and a flat cap to shame!

Going to try much harder next year...

Oh that was you. I saw you mooching around the enclosure, I thought you were with the actors doing the side showy stuff.

Not an actor, just a genuine petrolhead who also likes the vintage look.

People in lederhosen confused me the most. What's the relevance of that?

Excellent. Well done.

I'm all in favour with the period dressing - but draw the line at Laurel and Hardy and Marilyn Monroe.

I'm fine with those who dress like film stars, but my own line stops well short of dressing up as a Waffen SS officer. WTF?

Congratulations RaeB and very well deserved.

I don't have a problem with dressing up in any form, it is the ones who make no effort at all I find disappointing.

Laurel & Hardy in their Ford model T have been a regular feature of the Revival for many years but I didn't spot them this year. A shame if they weren't there, the group of people wearing "Sons of the Desert" fez's on Sunday were, I assume, members of the L&H Appreciation Society.

I have to agree.
The ones dressing up are a minority and usually make me laugh (eg. this year Paul McCartney in a Sgt. Pepper suit and Austin Powers in a purple suit).
I realize everybody is free to wear what they want, but just a little effort would already be enough. Chino's or corduroy trousers, a white or blue shirt and a flat cap and you'll be part of what the Revival team works hard on trying to recreate.

There was a chap on Saturday wearing platforms, a HUGE affro and he was blacked up!!!!!! The smartest uniforms I see on a yearly basis is a couple of gents wearing police uniforms possibly Italian police? Always look perfectly turned out.

The guy on Saturday, with the entry competing against the SS outfit for most tasteless of the weekend was meant to be the 'logo' from the Robertsons preserve jars of the 40s to 70s!
Some people who come as hippies just look like clowns (safe for any period). As every year passes I get more annoyed by the mustard / brick red trouser brigde - sorry the flathat doen't make them look 'in period' at all, just like they've popped out to their local bistro and found a flat hat on the way. To my mind just as incongrous as the F1 t-shirtists. Likewise for the female 'Ascot-wear with fascinator' brigade (especially when it was an outfit that has 'shrunk' since last worn!)
As you can tell this was my 60th birthday weekend, now officially an old git!
