Cheers NDA but I was talking about a static GTO in the paddock. Panning I can do!!
Sorry... smile

Yes, as Rich says earlier, it's probably just using aperture priority to give that depth of field.

Will, tell me how you get that effect with the Ferrari - there's no exif info on Flikr, but are you Photoshooping to keep the car perfectly focused and blurring the backgound? Or are you shooting wide open and getting you DOF so spot on??
It looks great.
Thank you.

All the photos are straight out of the camera.

I use a Sigma 1.4 30mm prime lens for almost everything now - it's a great lens.

I tend to use it at an aperture of 2.0 or 2.2 with a focus point on the front of the car (usually the numberplate). That tends to keep the car largely focussed but the background nicely blurred.

I would like to think it's great skill but frankly it's just good luck, lots of practice and many, many shutter clicks!

I achieve this effect on my manual Leica by pre focussing where the car is going to be (so a little spot on the tarmac I know the car should pass) and panning with the car and shooting at the pre-focussed spot. If your shutter speed is correct then you get the effect. If not (like this one below) the background is not blurred enough as the shutter speed was too fast... the car was actually flat out racing!

the worst "i own a leica" post ever! rofl /joke

Yes, you're right.

The thing with it is, a successful photo of a moving object with it is such a triumph that one feels compelled to mention it.

Anything that moves is tricky.

The shiny 1949 Cessna (although I can't now find where I read it).

Does anyone know which car won the vote in the Earls Court display?

Here is just a few from last weekend. I actually took loads and have finally extracted the good ones from the dross.

So here are four I am particularly pleased with, trying to go for quality rather than quantity!

I've found the aircraft result here: exquisite-cessna-wins-freddie-march-spirit-aviation-exhibition

I still haven't discovered who won the Earl's Court "Versatile V8s" vote.

Did anyone manage to get any pictures of the white GT40 (number 111) driven by Steve Soper in the Whitsun Trophy?
Thanks
