Just got back and welll.......What a load of bks.
Cars like those listed above are being declined whilst motoring blancmange like a run-of-the-mill Saab 93 cabriolet, and one that hasn't seen soap in a while, is let in. A Nissan Figaro? Wow, glad I made the journey. And what's this gem?.....oh, it's a Daihatsu Copen. Epic.
And someone really needs to read up on what constitutes a soft top.
A saloon with the sunroof glass panel removed does not count, and nor does a BMW with a folding HARD top.
You should ask for a refund ;-)

That's a good point. The petrol I used getting there wasn't given away.
GWBC may be free, but that's no excuse to allow it to become cheap. It also leaves me feeling that an inability on the part of the organisers to differentiate between a genuinely interesting classic or rare super car, and a mundane Euro-box will begin to taint ticketed events.
Quite ironic that in the recent Jaguar documentary, showcasing Jag's "new" works racers, Lord March smirked that, being essentially replicas, they're not welcome at Goodwood.

A brilliant event. Sure there were some cars people wouldn't choose but there was also some amazing cars, lots of them!

Thanks Goodwood and very well organised getting in and out.

I was a bit disappointed with the large sections set aside for dealers displays (BMW, Lotus). While there were some nice cars there I think most people want to see more unusual cars rather than what is available in a dealers.

To be fair to GW their definition is fairly broad "Anything but the roof! Classic and modern soft-tops, T-tops, targas, and ‘no-tops-at-all’, resplendent in the Sussex summer sunshine. Get your tops off and come and join the party…"

I suspect it's a mix of first-come first-serve and uniqueness that makes the decision. At some point they must simply close things off in order to move on with organising the next event. That said I didn't register till the 31st of May and got a circuit pass (BMW Z1).

To be fair, there were more sure-things than there were cars of questinable eligibility.
Thing is, for me at least, the presence of even a limited amount of blandness took the shine off.
It's a bit like Alan Carr popping up in a Martin Scorsese film.

I bought my tin top but parked it out of the way, I quite liked that Saab! A great day and certainly not a waste of petrol.

A nice drive to Goodwood with the roof folded away on our SLK. Parked it in the paddock and then watched the other cars arriving with a bacon sandwich. A great day out with an interesting mix of cars. I agree that there seemed to be some cars out of place, for example a GTR with a sunroof., there were lots of cars worth the trip. How often do you see a Model T Ford during around?

Well done Goodwood.

Just because it's not your or my cup of tea doesn't mean it should be dismissed.

Anyone who gets up sufficiently early on a Sunday morning to go to Goodwood is an enthusiast who should be welcome on this site. I wasn't particularly interested in the hundreds of MX-5s either - but others are, and these meetings always include a variety of cars not all of which will be of interest to everyone.

No, but there's an Audi estate going round a roundabout, that'll cheer you up! hehe

@ ptholt,
I noticed you spotted the ZMR, although not my usual choice of car and despite the fact that it wasn't a convertible, That was the one that really stood out for me today.

I would have been excited seeing a copen, you rarely see them and they're quirky.

As for the theme you'd best not go to supercar Sunday as they let in Porsches and BMW's your head would explode!!

You're seriously defending the Daihatsu Copen as an enthusiast's car?
