What I did notice was that there were a lot of people walking in and no tickets were being checked but as it was a free event who cares, so pleased that so many turned up to enjoy it,
I was asked if I had my printed email but nobody actually looked at it. They allowed 20,000 registrations on the website but the Channel4 programme in the evening estimated attendance at 32,000.I didn't think the GRRC marquee enclosure was the best place to view the event as it was looking into the sun. I ate my sandwiches in the marquee at lunchtime and then walked round to Madgwick to watch the take-offs.

No doubt the assembled crowds were captivated by the informative commentary which provided details of the various aircraft, their roles & the brave pilots who flew them - not.
Goodwood should be ashamed that the entire spectacle was allowed to proceed in silence except for the lovely sound of multiple Merlins. Maybe because the event was free then why waste the money or effort.
Noteworthy too was the ever present Goodwood class divide, GRRC members to the north, the tiresome riff-raff to the south, & the security staff imported.
Quelle surprise, someone complaining about a free event at Goodwood. Get yourself over to the Breakfast Meeting threads, you'll be in good company there Goodwood should be ashamed that the entire spectacle was allowed to proceed in silence except for the lovely sound of multiple Merlins. The reason we were unable to provide tannoy commentary on the day is because we are limited to only 5 days a year of excessive noise, due to the close proximity of houses to the aerodrome & circuit. These 5 days are currently taken up with Revival & Members Meeting, so we're unable to provide commentary for this event. We were given dispensation for crowd control announcements, which is why you would have heard the tannoy being used to inform you of the delay in flying. It certainly wasn't a money saving opportunity. If there was a desire to save money, we just wouldn't have held the event.Goodwood should be ashamed that the entire spectacle was allowed to proceed in silence except for the lovely sound of multiple Merlins. We offered the GRRC enclosure back to the members during this event as it felt like a nice thing to do.

PS Paul Beaver produced a fabulous programme detailing all the aircraft in photos and artwork as both a souvenir publication and a guidebook for identification - available for £10.

"The reason we were unable to provide tannoy commentary on the day is because we are limited to only 5 days a year of excessive noise, due to the close proximity of houses to the aerodrome & circuit".
This really is outrageous, many Circuits have this same problem with Housing being built closer and closer to Circuits. Its like people who move near a school then complain about kids being dropped off or someone parking blocking their drive.
If you don't like noise, do your bloody reasearch before moving into the Area.
I didn't go to Goodwood but Biggin Hill, its the same there, more and more housing being built on the old RAF barracks, no doubt many of them moan too!

While it is a shame that Goodwood has so few noise days, this was not needed to be used as one, and the circuit did well

There's concern about a new housing development wanting to be built close to the circuit at the moment I seem to recall. I live a couple of miles from White Waltham and quite enjoy the buzz of the planes trundling over, especially the big old radial engined Russian/Chinese ones and the Tiger Moths.
I have to admit, the stunt pilot who heads out early on Sunday mornings in the summer can 'do-one'.........it's like being woken up by an extremely big mosquito!
