The reason we were unable to provide tannoy commentary on the day is because we are limited to only 5 days a year of excessive noise, due to the close proximity of houses to the aerodrome & circuit. These 5 days are currently taken up with Revival & Members Meeting, so we're unable to provide commentary for this event. We were given dispensation for crowd control announcements, which is why you would have heard the tannoy being used to inform you of the delay in flying. It certainly wasn't a money saving opportunity. If there was a desire to save money, we just wouldn't have held the event.
We offered the GRRC enclosure back to the members during this event as it felt like a nice thing to do.

thanks for the info. A lot of Goodwood regulars I saw bought their radios with them to listen in but alas no broadcast. Worth thinking about as a silent way of keeping in touch!

The tannoy really isn't THAT loud anyway, I struggled to hear it over the racing tbh! plus with modern acoustic tech. surely its possible to direct away from houses so they don't hear it ?? *MORE NOISE*
It really doesn't matter now as it was a one off.

Thanks for the explanation, I did wonder about the lack of commentary. Brilliant day however, the atmosphere was great.

I am quite local to Goodwood and - shock horror - play golf there. You quite often get the based Spitfires flying circuits which interrupts my golf as it is impossible not to look up each time they fly over, so to see thirty + at once was fantastic. I am also a GRRC member but the GRRC area wasn't the best place to view from so please stop the "us and them" nonsense. I watched from St Mary's which was pretty good. Finally, thanks to the various posters for the superb pictures.
