It's only the fact that Lord March and the GRRCompany have turned, what is purported to be, the greatest motorsports event into an overpriced fancy dress party for the masses. The Revival has not been, for at least a decade, about the cars, the bikes, the historic racing. As an ex-GRRC member, I...like so many many others...have intentionally not been to the Revival for the past seven years. I was there for every one, from year one, until the event became excessively commercialized...ballooning into its current overpriced, overfed, semi-sycophantic colossus.
If you haven't been for seven years, you've missed an awful lot of great stuff! Not really sure why you're commenting, tbh, unless you've been viewing the 'current overpriced, overfed, semi-sycophantic colossus' on the telly, which is rather different to attending.

I love it, and have done since the first one I attended (2000 - and I missed 2004 too) Of course some bits are more interesting than others to me, but it's easy to avoid them. I wouldn't moan that a hotel I stayed in had a swimming pool if I didn't swim, or that a supermarket stocked items I didn't want to purchase, so I always think moaning about events like this (especially people who haven't attended for years or have blagged free tickets, or who boast about sneaking round stewards and parking where they shouldn't!) is a bit sad.

If it's too crowded for your liking, there's always the Members' Meeting (although people complain that's too cold *rolls eyes*) and I can't wait now until March 2016!
Which hopefully if enough members buy tickets will be members only soon so he won't be able to go. laugh

I did think that there was a lot less people making the effort to at least try to smarten up or get with the idea.
We noticed that too. Many more people hadn't seemed to have made an effort which is a bit of a shame.

Yep, this year there seemed to be many more men in jeans. Almost as though they thought, bugger it, I'll put a jacket and a pair of jeans on and that'll do. Kind of like flicking the finger to Lord March. Shame...

I'm sure many fashionable young bucks back in the 60's would have worn jeans to spectate at Goodwood
so in a way they are valid...But I agree they just don't look too good now.

'Twas a damned shame that the Vulcan, who was in s hold pattern over Worthing Rugby club, had to hold back to allow the Spitfires etc who'd been flying pretty much all day to finish.
(Am I a bit churlish to say I'm getting a bit bored with endless Spitfires...??)
Oh and please lose the Settrington Cup for the kids and their pedal cars . Ever so slightly self indulgent for a certain group IMO.
Otherwise good fun as always - intrigued by those spectators snoozing in the sun during Saturday's St Mary's Trophy, what a fabulous race!

Tend to agree, it was fun in the first year but should have been a once-off.

Whats all the fuss about?
Those that went got a whole 2 hrs and 10 minutes of car racing on Saturday (plus 25 mins of practice) and 2 hrs 55 mins on Sunday.
Who needs car racing when you can watch pedal cars!

Was there Saturday - fantastic event. Authenticity and attention to detail throughout are superb.

Paul.
..apart from the 'chaps' wearing Afghanistan, Iraq, NI, medal ribbons on their oft mismatched No.2's without an ounce of thought.

My wife debates this with me every year but the fact is that in the early years there were 14 races and now there's 16.

A jacket may be the least, but it's not what I was referring to. There were an awful lot of people that made absolutely no effort at all.

Oh you mean the fat slobs in grubby shorts and baggy grey T-shirts. Yeah, there were lots of them too!

It's the ones with the 95 litre rucksacks stuffed with cheap beer and sandwiches on the look-out for freebies - you know, those who have no spatial awareness and keep walloping others, that really bug me. I saw several of the older drivers nearly knocked flat by careless punters who didn't recognise them...

It was only supposed to be 2 aircraft before the Vulcan, then suddenly they were joined by the Curtis pair, the 2 extras were helping fill time while the Vulcan sorted its fuel issue. I don't for one moment think the vulcan was deliberately held up, it's a selling point, so why upset the punter waiting for it? Goodwood has a tight flight window so they don't muck about, which is why on Friday any time made up was lost waiting for the air window.

Each to their own, i don't tired of Spitfires, love them. But i do feel they get overused. But as Westhampnett was a Spitfire satellite station, it is fitting.
The racing was fantastic. The TT on sunday brilliant, St Marys had battles all through

This event is one I recommend to others, for two reasons. One the racing and two it is a chance for your partner to have fun. My wife with her friend, who runs a vintage clothes business, took ages getting everything exactly period, 50's on day one, 60's on day two. For her being able to indulge in "dressing up" was the biggest part.
Yes some don't get it, the comedy brigade dressed as biggles with the wired scarf, and yes there were some "chavs" but they looked so out of place had they any idea they would not do it the next time.
Some people went to extraordinary lengths to get it right, parents with vintage prams and pushchairs, kids dressed up in period all fantastic.
When you then see the perfect backdrop it is evocative of a better period where people were polite and standards were higher.
To those who don't like it stay away, it is simple. I hate football so when offered tickets to the FA cup I turned them down. I hope it stays basically the way it is.

One question though, are the race cars invited or can you enter? My brother and I were commenting on the lack of Hillman Imps in the saloon car race and how the racing Imp we are building would be perfect for it.
You don't enter, you are invited!

I guess it might be possible for the club to suggest some Imps when they have an anniversary but generally I believe that it's cars with period racing history that make it onto the list (or are owned/driven by someone famous).

A shoot out between Minis and Imps would be good seeing that Imp owners claim they are better than Minis smile

Lucky you getting free tickets and moaning

Well at sucks, but thanks for letting me know.
FISCAR and HRDC touring greats seems a well travelled route in. Bit early for an imp though.

In all seriousness I'm surprised they haven't been any Imps in the StMary's. They're fiercely competitive upper middle order cars in the HRSR/HSCC.
