I popped down on Saturday morning, only 30 mins away, been to a couple of the Saywell Days and they are usually pretty good, got there about 9am and was very quiet. The sun being out helped and was good to get my old golf out the garage for a run. Watched the track for a couple of hours, and left about 11am as it seemed like the world turned up this time. I guess the trouble with the internet is that everyone finds out about it. The Gallardo with number plate LE66ERA (something close to this) sounded lovely on the track and the mini that was going round was rapid!

I'm fortunate enough to live fairly local to Goodwood so tend to go for an hour or two most weekends. The place is special without the cars, but when there's something on, even the less exotic, its Heaven on Earth.

I don't have lots of money and nor do I have a supercar - I'm lucky enough to have an E36 M3 as a weekend car which is my pride and joy. However when I go I do all that I can to not park in the paddocks since its not "my" event and I consider it disrespectful and would be embarrassed to park it in the paddock. Those taking part in the event should take the priority and whilst my M3 is in my eyes perfect I know its not a super car - especially against what attended on Saturday and to take the place of some of the real supercars who were more than likely invited along would be disrespectful. I appreciate that some may not be frequent visitors and you can get a little lost on the way in and driving through the tunnel you do get the noise we all crave, but never the less to turn up and act a fool isn't on.

Sadly its a result of the "youtube" generation where showing off and acting the fool with little respect to anyone (even themselves) is actually celebrated and rewarded. Added to the fact that there are little to no consequences or abilities to enforce anything - society no longer blames people for individual actions. I've seen youtube videos from some of the well known car youtubers criticising Goodwood heavily for some car events and showing no respect for those who made the effort to display their cars - we are all too lowly and not super enough for them - yet they turn up like an "A Lister" on Saturday - again untouchable because of the internet.

Who doesn't want to hear a Ferrari rev its engine - most of us rarely see let alone hear them - however would I do that in the M3 - not on your life they are ten-a-penny and you just end up looking a kn*b.

The likes of the GTR chap, sadly its hard to prevent. I just pray that his "sort" don't ruin it for the normal folk who respect and realise what is the privilege to be able to attend events like this for free in the Goodwood surroundings.

If I was asked to pay £20 entry it wouldn't even cross my mind, other than what value for money it was - don't ruin that for the rest of us please...

Haha... that MINI may have been me :-) Nice to hear some praise!

Now I'm not one of the event organisers but do like to thank people for coming down and supporting a really great cause. The real charity event is whats occurring on track and not in the paddock. However I hope those who came to show off (As would I should I own such machinery) dipped their hands into their pockets.

Now word has spread more and more, I can't see these being quiet events any more. The supercar convoys were all organised without the consent of the organisers but despite initial reservations, it really did add to the atmosphere, until a handful ruined it!

See you all at the next one. If anyone posts on instagram, youtube etc.. please do tag Jakemico

Jakemico, if that's your mini in the above picture then it is the one I enjoyed watching on the track. I'm guessing it's completely standard wink

Yeah that is me! It's had a few choice modifications. Latest was having some custom carbotech pads made up for the front brakes... needless to say that they worked! Next time out I hope to have a means to fit a couple harnesses for the benefit of my passengers.

Some great pictures everyone has taken!

I dont really understand the spotter generation but I will says this, a lot of those kids seem to know pretty much everything about the cars they are snapping. I heard one of them on Saturday saying how he wanted to see the chassis number for the P1!

And they are usually better behaved than some of the drivers.

I think in future having a word with Goodwood and perhaps offfering a donation to the charity would go a long way.

Don't get me wrong I did enjoy seeing all the cars (it's what I was there for) but they should have been parked away from (at least) the first two paddocks, to allow the track day particpants to park. I was guilty of being parked in one of the paddocks but there werent many people about when I got there in the morning. Usually I'll park in the gravel car park by the Old Control Tower - or wherever the Marshalls send me.

I'd also be happy to pay a "voluntary" donation of a £5 to the charity - I usually throw some money in the bucket anyway.

If only the police watch those videos of looneys & take action against the owners! If only.

Mind you, from my experience, these so called "A-Listers" (Shmee, Paul Supercars Of London Wallace, Seen Through Glass Sam & Seb Delanney) are quite down to earth in reality & got on with me very well that day. Especially Shmee!

Whenever there's a charity side to events i go to, i always chuck a few quid in for the charities of the organizers choice as a mark of respect & generosity. If only i could give more away but someone in my family would be furious if i did! But if there was a minimum donation of £5-£10, i'd be very happy to donate it!

It's difficult to ask for an 'entrance fee' as it's private property. Perhaps something to mention to the organisers for next time but I feel that would take away from the relaxed atmosphere they had created?

I'll try and find out how much we raised on the day and let you guys know!

I for one am thankful to get to take people out and share the fun I have on track. I had the joy of taking a young lad out for his first track experience and after a couple warm up laps I gave him a pre arranged thumbs up which he returned in kind so I gave it the beans! Not that we were timing... cough cough... but a little birdy told me we achieved 1:33 something which I'm very pleased with! Not sure how that stacks up to be perfectly honest.

Yeh, i think if the organisers / goodwood make it a paying event they will have to meet loads of guidelines etc...

I think people should just not give people like him the attention and eventually he should go back to his hole... I also didn't realise the 675LT was Mr Schmee's ... i'm not into this u-Tube thing either tbh...

Not too far behind my 997 C2S (about 2 seconds) which was accidently timed on a previous Saywell day wink

Shame about all the negative comments and idiot(s) that turned up for the day.

I know Peter pretty well and if there's any danger of cars being damaged (especially any of his) I suspect he may take a different view of the day which may change the format for the future.

I'm guessing the Goodwood staff can keep a careful eye out in future and have a quiet word where necessary!

Damn... I must try harder next time then ;-) I've no more performance modifications planned for next time but now I've more confidence in the car and new brakes I'll be sure to work a little harder! Haha

Brands Hatch next month 👍🏽

I'll bring some cash with me next time and if you are happy to have me i'd love to come out for a few laps in your MINI (i was the fellow MINI owner who had a chat with you just after you came off) Id like to experience what that much oomph feels like in the MINI!

Was a great day out an certainly the best and most well attended Saywell day I have ever been too.
We have been to more then I can recall for a number of years and every event seems to get bigger.
The last two being noticeably bigger then previous with this last one being yet another step up.

I help organise event for South East Scoobies, so we normally combine this with a monthly meet. It's in our area and also kills 2 birds...so to speak. We also try to get on track there 1 - 2 times a year, but obviously not amongst such exotica as Saywell's & Co.

Unfortunately the majority of us this time had a previous breakfast rendezvous and hence ended up in the overflow carpark turning up at 10:45. Some late arrivals at 12:00 actually got turned away at the gate due to Goodwood being full !!!!

With regard to the young spotters....it's keeps my eldest busy, I didn't see much of him all day. He still wanted feeding though wink : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaXcwwNXvuk

Jakemico - Before i organised the Supercar convoy i emailed one of Peter's close associates who had organised previous events, and he confirmed that it would be OK and that he had forwarded full details onto Peter.

You yourself wrote on my thread:

"Just wanted to say thank you for your support ................ just a heads up that upon arrival please drive to the farthest paddocks closest to the aro club. The nearest two are used for the cars on track and they are driving in and out all day"

The group that i organised was a private group, the meeting venue/convoy details were not published but sadly and completely unbeknown to me a couple of social media bloggers did turn up.

I'm pleased to hear that the additional Supercars added to the atmosphere, but also publicly apologise if the additional attention caused Peter any concerns.

NB. The presence of the Black Nissan GTR "MR11 GTR" was certainly nothing to do with the group I organised although its behaviour did cause us concern.

Ian, sounds like you had a sensible and thought out plan - another event ruined by the internet!

By the way your Diablo looked awesome

Hi Ian,

Apologies for my comment, I completely overlooked our previous discussion. I will say thank you again for your support, we raised more money at this event than in previous years which is most certainly down to your involvement!

This Black GTR and a few others were mentioned on a few occasions which is a huge shame. I do hope you will attend the next one in July!

100IAN!!! Now it's clicked who the Diablo belongs to! Bravo. I managed to have a quick drool over that. Certainly one of the stand out stars in the paddock from what I saw (No this isn't me blowing smoke to undo a wrong... honest!)
