Have the rules changed or am I just a pain in the @rse for asking why I was rejected?
What rules? But yes, I guess you are. As we all know, there's no entry fee and it's just a bit of fun so I guess the team feel they've enough to do without answering email from disgruntled owners put out because they aren't invited to be on the grid. Why not just go, bet a bacon buttie, have a look round and enjoy the morning?
:-)

To be clear: I wasn't asking to be let on the grid, just let in. With 2 inches of ground clearance I don't do grass car parks.

The question to which you replied was "why can't I see their forum anymore?" not why was I rejected? And they do say any queries drop them a line, so I did. I didn't ask them to change their mind (although that would have been nice), I just asked why. If they only wish me to apply for soft top Sunday (i.e. not in theme) I'd know for future reference. It was being told it was to increase the mix that raised my eyebrows.

A run out in the car is a big part of Breakfast Club and if I'm forced to bring my rather dull daily drive it's not worth it. Piston Heads Sunday Services are better for seeing cars, places and meeting people and somewhat more relaxed.

It'll do me good to actually stop home and do some housework, it does rather get neglected during the race and car season.

Have fun and post lots of pictures

It's all very well applauding the sentiment, but if everyone thought that way there would be nothing to look at apart from a field full of diesel saloon cars. The public bringing their cars tor others to view for free is the show.

Well quite clearly not if Goodwood are rejecting fine looking cars that to me says they have more than enough interest to be picky.

At the end of the day the event is a free event - hosted at Goodwood, which is a wonderful setting, but made by those attending - we are the people who provide the "entertainment".

And yes all of us who enjoy ownership of a our cars enjoy compliments and displaying our pride and joy (which can be different for different people given none of us are the same and none of us have the same spending capacity) - the effort we all make to clean them when they are on display and alike is a large effort by all.

However attendance is limited by numbers and between me and my friends there's always a few of us who miss out on an invite.

It took me a few years to have my E36 M3 accepted to the Soft Top Sunday - and mine has been the only E36 M3 at any one of these I have been to against many more E46 and E90s.

Either way it does get my back up when people go to these free events and moan and criticise about them. Yes will there be plenty of Porsche's - yes im sure there will be and yes those who approve the cars attending can sometimes overlook or make mistakes - clearly they do they are only human. Its a free event which I would willingly pay money to go to given the cars on display.

And for those who sadly didn't get a pass to display their cars - the car parks normally hold cars equally as good if not better than those within the track and they are still an opportunity to enjoy a day taking in the wonderful setting which is Goodwood and maybe play with a few others driving to the event - at the soft top Sunday there was a Carrera GT in the grass car park - in my book it was the car of the show - parked in a field not even with a pass to attend, but that's the beauty of the event and why the cars parks are as exciting as the trackside.

So hopefully the sun will be out and the bacon crispy and "us" car fanatics get there and back safe and sound and enjoy the effort made by the Goodwood team and ourselves, with no reason to moan and criticise what is at the end of the day a free event.

Well said Big Al, I'm certainly guilty of complaining of too many cars of a certain manufacturer but I enjoy every breakfast club and enjoy seeing the variety of cars and the enthusiasm of the owners who put the time and effort into showing their vehicles.

I also recommend to anyone who avoids going in the car park next to the revival tesco and ticket office where the motorbikes park that it's worth a look, I'm not a motorbike man but some of the bikes are amazing.

lezdix: just come down mate. You said yourself that half the fun is driving down in your car. I'd love to hear and see it. Join the A3 services convoy tomorrow morning...it'll be epic.

You clearly want to come. wink

Screw the ground clearance / grass parking. I'm sure you can sort something out...

I've committed to working on the car now. With all the confusion over rejections becoming acceptances I wrote for clarification and got grief on here for doing so, so I decided to just forget it and plan something else. Hopefully the modifications will make the car will a little less hard core on longer trips. I'm trying to vent the tub to stop misting up when the roof's on.

As I'm wandering down the pit straight, I'm hearing people saying they've closed the public car parks?

That was a very nice variety of cars however why have Goodwood reduced the number of cars on show? That was a dissapointment that it took half as long to view the selection on offer. I was also expecting a very high standard of car as that G33 didn't get accepted sadly there was quite a few cars that I felt didn't meet the theme.

Guy, if you are reading this at Goodwood and you're planning to come back this way, there is a sod off great fallen tree blocking nearly the entire road on the B2141 close to Chilworth.

Be careful.

I think in retrospect this worked quite well today with a definite quality (mainly) over quantity approach as to what was allowed in. It forced you to have a look round areas other than the usual suspects which had some really good cars parked up, would probably have missed those on a normal Supercar Sunday. Really good seeing the F1 GTR Longtail and P1 GTR combination close up so always thankful these events remain after all these years and that owners of cars like these still turn up to the event.

Got there at 0650 and gone by 0915 before it started to get really busy.

Some fantastic machinery there and I think I have to agree, it was good not having 50 Ferrari 360s there and instead a focus on some rarer stuff. The F50, Veyron and the P1 & F1 GTRs were the highlight for me!

I have to say I was a bit disappointed that there was lots of empty space (including a large part of the pit straight for much of the morning and the area opposite the pits all the time) and what was there was spread all over the place - with at least as many interesting cars in the public car parks as around the circuit. Personally I would rather have the place full of cars and then I decide which are of interest to me rather than Goodwood make an arbitrary choice. The theme has already chosen which cars are appropriate and that should be enough really. But then it is Goodwood's event and it was rammed with people so I suppose they will have been quite happy.
