I'm not sure about your comments about raw petrolhead attendance. We don't want a fordfest vibe at Goodwood thank you!!

My parents took me to the 2nd festival of speed over 20years ago. They weren't petrolheads but them taking me to Goodwood each year turned me into one!
Sure, but then what attendees does Goodwood want? Had I realised it was a family day out, I wouldnt have bothered in the first place!
It always has been a family day out, although I didn't see any wacky racers driving up the hill this year.

Have attended every single year since it's start but.....didn't go this year for a number of reasons.

Can I ask what were the air displays this year?

Rain and cloud mostly

Think the red arrows did a fly by on Friday. They were scheduled to do displays on Thursday and Saturday but both cancelled due to weather

Ah cool. Sorry just saw a short video of them doing what looked like a flyby. Glad they got to do something over the weekend.

They did a full low level display on Friday as there were still a few large clumps of Cumulous drifting across. The single flypast was on Sat and was just a convenient moment as they transited to their next destination - they'd just done another display elsewhere had insufficient fuel for anything more.

That's pretty standard practice in many bars / hotels.

I use the Hilton in Bristol for coffee meetings - they take my card, put it in a locker, and give me a plastic 'tab' key.
Not come across that practice before, sounds like a good way to get your card skimmed!

Picked up a client/mate at 9am at Petersfield train station on Friday and got in at 1pm. Gridlock. Not helped by the clueless hi-vis parking attendants around the circuit. He had to be back in London for 5.30 so we had a whole 90 minutes there....

Been going for years but think will give it a miss from now.

That's just p*ss poor planning, to be frank.

Forgot to mention spectating on the hill itself, they've actually reduced space for the average spectator each year for a while now.

This year the paddock side of the hill just came to an abrupt stop at crossing point 8 with no warning. I reached there just as a crossing opportunity had passed, meaning a huge walk back down to the bridge and up the other side to reach the top end.

Not only is there no spectating whatsoever in the top half on the paddock side, they've added further grandstands on the exhibitor side right the way to the final open area.

Fortunately it was bizarrely quiet this year (on Friday), but I imagine on a busy/sunny year that's going to make things even less comfortable for the average visitor.

As a local and having done every fos since it started i have seen it grow year on year and I have often come away thinking you know I think I will give it a miss next year as it get's a bit repetitive but I still end up going for the reason that I would be stuck at home(if there were no other motoring events on) thinking I wish I had gone. One thing I would love to see is the course record broken as I think it's time for a change and although the likes of Ollie Clarke Justin law and kenny back have tried I think we need a class for some british hillclimb specialists to have a go!!

I went today my 17th year running and I enjoyed it.
Not in the same way as I did maybe even 8 years ago but there was still nice cars to see and people to chat to.
I don't bother anymore going further than Molecomb - the Rally stage needs more time spent up there than a day.
I thought they'd made quite a few changes - one was where has the Cathedral paddock gone?! Replaced by a huge Supercar paddock.
Less hospitality this time I thought.
Less people in brightly coloured trousers!
Less 'named' drivers and certainly less big teams running.
I thought that the almost 45 cars running in the shoot out was good - running like it used to when almost everything was timed.
Aside from the off late this afternoon it ran to schedule and if there was a pause they filled it with Terry Grant.
It's definitely more family orientated these days.

I arrived at 7:15 and left at 19:00 - no traffic and fortunately no mud as such in car park M.

AS above thid event remains on my calendar every year.

I don't think they are allowed.
You like me were probably there when Heidfield set that record, it was pretty fantastic. We all thought it would get beaten......

I went one year. Posh couple sat in front of us drinking Pimms. Bloke was about 25, was wearing beige chinos, a pin-striped shirt and one of those wker hats. His missus spoke like she had a fish stuck under her tongue. All the while, motorsport greats were whipping by up the hill, and they just looked down at their cheese board, probably discussing which dinner dance they were attending that night.

FoS is full of knobheads. I never went back (so now one less laugh )

Went on a Thursday a few years ago and was total garbage, went Friday this time and was much better and was able to get around.
Been three times over the years and the traffic getting in has always been a nightmare and puts me of going more often.
Didn't experience any Chavs or knobbers.

I was and what a drive! and then a few years later they had a hillclimb specialist set a 42 ish second run and if a remember he hit his rev limiter going past the house enroute to molecomb!
Have a look at this clip and then read the comments... if it's true it would be a surprise! https://youtu.be/U1OdeJ4X_DM

This has been done before at Goodwood, you don't have to give them your c card, just any card, I've give then an AA card in the past!

First time attending for myself, got gifted tickets for all 4 days and probably spent 10-12 hours at the event each day, very much enjoyed it.

Spent the Thursday looking around all the stands/paddocks while it was somewhat quieter, had a brief look around a few bis i wasn't too interested in, we were geared up for mud and walked up to the rally paddocks on the Thursday up the slippery hill, next to nobody up there bar the rally boys, had a few very nice interesting chats, helped push a metro into place as it wouldnt start and generally felt like we'd explored most things on Thursday.

The hospitality suites were pretty neat, friend has a BMW so we went in there for a bit and had a quiet sit down, i drive a Saab so i thought it would be amusing to try and talk my way into the Vauxhall suite, turned out to be very friendly and i walked up and said "I have a Saab, it's a posh Vauxhall they stopped selling because it was making you lot look bad" In a joking way, the Vauxhall representative had a good chat with me about some work he did with Saab back in 2009 regarding some prototypes etc and then let us know to make the most of the free water/tea/coffee/crisps and we could pop back at any time in the day, Really very nice of him considering i was thinking theyd think im a moron for walking up with a Saab key cracking wise.

Also had a very nice chat with one of the salesman at the Jag stand about the project 7, I'm very intrigued by it but dont know much about it, saw it on Harry Metcalfs youtube channel), as i asked if one was here there wasnt but he had a good talk to me about it and seemed to know his stuff/be interested about the brand he was promoting, he suggested i may find one in the supercar car park but unlikely.

Me and a friend were then slight concerned we'd have 3 days with fk all to see/do, completely wrong. Friday we obviously witnessed a lot of the stuff going up the hill from various places and saw of the Motorsport side of the event for the first time, felt some areas were rather busy but we had explored them the day before so felt no pressure to look around other than what we wanted to, Early afternoon we watched the GAS Arenas show as my friend rides trials is a huge MX fan, very good show considering they had to put multiple sports into one not so large space, Ricky Carmichael was awesome and the show itself was impressive. spent some time listening to the music over at Mazdas little raise the roof event, was quite relaxing.

Saturday we walked up to the Rally part again in the morning instead of the tractor ride, chatted to a few of the marshals on the way up, very friendly and keen again watched bits going up the hill, some repetitive but we knew that would happen being there for all 4 days. After 6pm on Saturday we wandered around the paddocks again and it was quiet even had a play on the shell driving sim they had setup, which i was crap at but had a rather keen what i asume was a racing driver of some sort giving me tips/advice although its only a game he made me take off the auto mode and forced me to learn a bit which i actually enjoyed hugely. We ended up leaving at about 8pm, was really cool wandering around after 6 ish when its died down on a busy day.

Sunday we were both destroyed in terms of how far we'd walked since Thursday morning and the camping not being ideal with minimal sleep (We stayed in a crap holiday park about 2 miles away) So we had a very relaxing morning sat up by Mole combe watching the runs, went and got lunch and got back up there to watch the shoot out which was great fun! Would've loved Doran to get a full ruin in though i think he'd have been top 3. Some hugely ballsy runs up the hill made it awesome to watch!

Unfortunately we set off pretty much after the shootout due to having to drive home and work tomorrow etc. Would've loved to again stay until 8 ish and wander around.

Overall i seriously enjoyed it and plan on going back, admittedly not the whole 4 days, i think that was good as it was as a brand new experience but id be happy with 2 days i think.

Well, I enjoyed today a lot more than the Thursday, but then that might have had a lot to do with stuff moving about and making noise and smelling of race fuel and stuff. However, a massive negative that outweighed all my previous niggles did sour the day...

Queue into the car park (dunno which letter designation, the one where you come into it from the Lavant road) just like Thursday, only difference being it's a LOT more churned up and I now have my disabled wife to think about. Try to ask the wallah at the gate where the disabled parking is. He just shouts at us for holding up the trafic... which we're not; the car in front has wisely stopped for a clear run across the puddle of liquid mud in the gateway so I couldn't have gone further than ten feet anyway. Anyway, we get no sense out of the hi-viz fool who's now waving furiously at us, so we continue into the field. Get waved on by another marshal who also refuses to tell us where to access the disabled parking. Finally get funnelled into a row of cars parking, right in some of the worst rutting and sodden mud. Ask the final marshal "where's the disabled parking, please?"

"Here, Here" she shouts at us, in a tone of voice that'd get you a smack were you to use it outside a pub at 11:30.

"No it isn't," I said, politely and calmly as possible. "Where's the disabled parking?" Show her the blue badge thing in case she miss-heard.

She screams at us about holding traffic up. It's 06:30, there are about twelve cars moving in the entire field at this point. When I try to ask again, she walks past the car and starts directing the next car into the parking line as if we'd suddenly ceased to exist. I go to the nest marshal along, who seems calmer and actually takes the time to come up with the transparent lie that the disabled field is "real bad, not working goood and you have to go here now" I park up in the middle of the rutted field like everyone else, because the wife doesn't want me to "make a scene." She then has to traverse a quagmire of mud and rutted ground to even make it to the exit from the field, and then the hike to the Festival ground starts.

So, good job she wasn't in a wheelchair then.

On the way in, we pass the disabled parking field. It's billiard-table smooth and seems to be operating fine. Would have saved at least a hlaf-mile walk as well. Having read the disabled parking thread on here and seen the torrent of resentment and hatred contained therein, I guess there are plenty of PHers gloating about how it serves us right, why should such burdens on society get preferential treatment after all? Maybe because the system exists and it ought to work. And anyone taking money to doa job, even one as no doubt stty as marshalling a car park, ought to be able to do it in a professional manner rather than just lie or shout because they can't be bothered to sort it out.

Still, on a plus side, we found the supercar parking area up the top of the FoS grounds later on. £200 quid to park there, and you get your own special bit of muddy grass to park on and even a metal track for access. There were over 200 cars in there, some of which were superb. So that's forty grand for the Goodwood coffers, which is clearly excellent.

So it wasn't running today and was covered in a tarp at the peak of visitor interest - why bother asking Toro Rosso to bring a car? Didn't notice too much BMW Brabhamage on the hill today either. Even our esteemed World Champ appears to have voted with his feet!!
