If he's a big lad I'm sure he'll be fine! Actually, I'm sure a waistcoat is fine and if the weather is hot I am sure I've been in in a shirt and tie. They are more concerned with ruling out jeans and trainers and by saying men must wear a tie or cravat is a good way of suggesting that. Sounds like you've made the effort which is the main thing.

You'll love it, excellent event

When hanging around the village area, just stand still and take it all in, people watch - very interesting

Stray into the car parks and the free bit outside, some lovely stuff there as well

Shame I didn't spot your post earlier, we would have invited you to our Rv for a drink / food

Enjoy

Just to point out that the "over the road" bit is now inside the ticketed area so there's no free bit as such.

If you can, make sure you have a wander around Chichester itself. It's a lovely place. Thoroughly recommend The Blacksmiths for dinner too if you can get a table (found couple of miles south of the city). smile

I'm setting off shortly for my first time today (won tickets on PH biggrin) going with my Dad, he spent over £200 yesterday in M&S trying to get a tweed jacket so we've both made an effort. Looking forward to it and better weather than what yesterday looked like.

The dress code is normally well enforced.
It most certainly is NOT, & I have attended almost every Revival as Joe Public, guest, radio interviewer, re-enactor & marshal. Just the very occasional oik in jeans/tracksuit this year.

Were talking about the paddock here.

Well what a day!! Arrived Friday at 0645 to rain, nipped to the Naafi wagon for a freebie egg & bacon roll, lucky the rain stopped and the weather was kind to us for the rest of the day. Loved the paddocks and enjoyed the whole atmosphere of the event! A bit disappointed there wasn't any viewing area on the banks pit side as it was all taken up by hospitality but I suppose a grandstand ticket will be purchased for next year.

All in all a great day, next year I'll be doing at least two days!

We're talking about the paddock here.
There were several people just barging their way into the paddock without passes and in jeans etc. However I spoke to a few of the stewards and they said it's just impossible to prevent them. Indeed as I was chatting three burly looking blokes in their late 40s were stopped ans asked to show their paddock passes. "Passes? What are they? We ain't got none and so what?" they said as they pushed past. To be honest they weren't the sort of people you'd mix it with! So what to do? Frankly I was amazed but the stewards said it's surprisingly common to get those types...

Yup, some real riff raff getting into the paddock in shorts and tee shirts on Sunday - I asked one of the guys on duty what was going on and he replied with a smile that they were having to "relax" the requirements in some cases ......
Breakfast Club, FOS, and now Revival ..... the proles are infiltrating!!!!

We wondered the paddocks on Friday unchallenged. Didn't realize until later we weren't to be there. At least we weren't walking around with champagne glasses in hand as we witnessed others doing.

That could easily be friends and family of the owners of the cars in the paddock.

Finally back home after our grand adventure! Revival was, to this American, an amazing, organized, high quality event. I can't fathom an event in the US getting such a high participation rate of period dress. It was astounding from start to finish and even got a free car wash in the parking lot on Sunday, which was needed after Saturday's rain. I wish we could make it an annual event, but, alas, it can't happen for us. Enjoy what you have so near at hand!

My husband was absolutely thrilled with this event, seeing cars in person he's only ever read about before.

In my mind it was money well spent.

So glad you enjoyed yourselves, despite the moaning, it is indeed a special event!
