My view of revival

I go to the meeting for the racing, I make sure I'm smartly dressed if not in total period gear.
First day, ok we won the World Cup in 1966 but the live reporter with the "fans, team etc" a bit embarrassing!
Both of the on site presenters I think it's Ben and someone are crap I'm afraid. Seemed to be less people dressed up and by the way no ticket check into over the road by main entrance.
Love the event be interested to see what others think!

Let me state I'm a football fan BUT the England world cup thing was entirely drivel. What's worse it wasn't even 'in-period' accurate. No England fan in 1966 wore scarves and certainly not in red and white. Look at the crowd pics of the 66 Final - Rosettes, the odd banner and some flags - not a scarf in site!!
The squawking female presenter was a waste of space and as I've said elsewhere the orgaanisation appear to be positively encouraging fancy dress. One idiot was wearing hunting reds and breeches complete with a riding hat and boots!!

1st timers thoroughly enjoyed the day. We were impressed with how many made an effort to dress appropriately. Can't wait for the next 2 days. We didn't come anywhere close to seeing it all today. Much salivating from the hubs over the spectacular collection of cars. Cars he's read about and had the matchbox version, to finally experience the sight, smell and sound of them is overwhelming. On top of that a model of the plane his dad worked on in ww2, piper cub L4.
I have been watching the live feed from the comfort of my couch and do have to agree about the two squawking presenters. The male is Ben Constanduros who seemingly hasn't realised that the mike amplifies one's voice so there is no need to shout into it. Nor does he know what some of the cars are unless he's shown the showcard or told by someone. He's bloody irritating. As for people in fancy dress, I've seen a goodly amount of them over the years. Some dressed as WW2 German Army officers spring to mind, very bizarre.

Actually some did wear scarves in 1966 - photos via google images prove so 
It's interesting seeing comments re 'fancy dress'. I'm planning on going next year and researching outfits. Maybe Goodwood need to press the fact it's meant to be between 1948 and 1966.

On another note: Really feel for the people and stall holders down there today, the weather is bloody awful, the thought of having paid out for a ticket, sorting out your period dress then having to walk around in rain must be horrid

It isn't, its 40s, 50s and 60s. However it is true that some people were still in uniform in 1948 as they hadn't been demobbed - my Dad for one.The rain today was very persistent! We gave up around lunch time as tomorrow is another day!

You could argue that if you reay wanted to be historically accurate then you should be dressed in something from 48-66, ie the years they were racing there (it's the historian in me). It is easier though to say 40s, 50s and 60s

I was merely pointing out that if people want to see others in historically accurate dress, it may well be time Goodwood reinforces their own history and the dates in which the motor sport took place, so such 'efforts' as cowgirl are reined in a bit.

The photo from 1966 above has a baseball cap in......Although I did see a guy in his 20's who'd made an effort by wearing tweed and then decided a red bull/monster energy hat was fitting, I decided he probably drove a car that he'd call a drift car.
You could have driven into any of the car parks & explored the display area 'across the road' at no cost.
Tickets are checked in & out of the circuit itself. It is possible to sneak into the circuit area unnoticed but you come unstuck when asked to show your ticket on the way out - but you can of course claim to have lost it!
