Yesterday - Friday - was a cracking day, especially the Kinrara race at the end.
However it was very disappointing to see that "hospitality" facilities were taking more space than ever. This meant that there was nowhere to view the racing along the whole main straight from inside the track without paying megabucks for one of the hospitality packages.
Previously an area just past the exit of the marshalling paddock was accessible. Also a Paddock pass allowed acces to an area just past the chicane.
It's not much better on the outside and the limited space available was jammed even though it was only the practice sessions. Also it was very obvious that the enclosures opposite were hardly occupied so much of the trackside viewing space was barely in use.
We all understand commercial pressures and the drive to maximise revenue but, in this fan's opinion, the balance has been lost.

Agree 100%. That's what makes the Members Meeting so much better. Corporate is slowly killing Goodwood for paying punters.
Oh and an update from a hacked off friend, the roving grandstand ticket only covers the grandstands on the far side of the circuit apparently

Roving grandstands are at Madgwick, Fordwater, Lavant corner & Lavant straight. If you were there yesterday, it would have also got you into Startline & Woodcote.

Yet the rest of the circuit is empty. Take a walk.

I do. St Mary's is my pitch normally. (Or is your comment the Goodwood response to any complaints??!!)

Wouldn't have got me in there as I don't buy grandstand tickets. A friend of mine did. Maybe he should read the small print!

Ok the rain helped remove some of the spectators today, but having walked a lap of the track there was ample viewing at every corner

I'm not sure but it's the answer to the OPs post.

Correct that the rest of the circuit was relatively empty: I spent a fair part of the day there.
However, past experience tells me that it will be a different story tomorrow, given good weather.
In any case that was not my point. The Woodcote - Chicane - Pits - Start Line sector is the centre of much action. As things are now not many folk will be able to watch what goes on there.

Had another really enjoyable day there today. I think anyone complaining about poor viewing options has a point, it gets busy. But if you are prepared to walk 10 minutes or more, you are still greeted by loads of options to watch. World class cars, racing and views. It is still an incredible event, far from being too big or too commercial as some complain. A bit of effort still has great rewards.

On Saturday it wasn't the rain that was the problem. It was the selfish idiots who kept putting their garden size unbrellas in the way with no consideration for other people trying to see the racing.

I was surprised how quiet it was on Sunday once we got past Madgwick, we were leaning on the fence all the way round - took all day to walk from Madgewick to Woodcote, watched each race from a different corner and hardly queued for beer food or loos.

Apart form being a bit sunburned all was good!

Glad I didn't have a ticket from Saturday though! Spent the morning keeping dry in the camper van and the afternoon in pre 75 and Over the Road - they'd lost interest in checking tickets by late afternoon.
