Surely goodwood won't change the dates now that tickets are already on sale?
Dates as advertised are provisional and not confirmed until f1 calendar is confirmed

They have moved the event in the past to avoid major clashes.

Certainly can. They have this warning on the ticket website:

Goodwood said:
*Provisional date, subject to December confirmation

Okay, I've made some more bookings.

I now have a hotel booked for:

15th June - 18th June
22nd June - 25th June
29th June - 2nd July.

I should be ok, right?

i have no doubt that it would sell out with or without F1. i didn't find them that big an attraction and i am an F1 fan.

all they really did was wave to people

I'm sure on the lucrative corporate/VIP side, having F1 stars is a big draw. The whole place is built around having a (sponsored) F1 paddock. It's the halo product for FoS that probably has a knock on effect of attracting other stuff, and one of its unique selling points.

I thought Goodwood would have had an alternative date for contingency but there's still no news.

Quite a big ship to change course I imagine and there will have been no indication of how the calendar would change until last night when the FIA ratified it. I assume they will be talking to F1 teams to make sure if they change the date they can/will attend, and obviously the F1 teams themselves won't have known about the new calendar for long.

to be honest, if it were the same weekend as an F1 race, some teams would still show up.. its only the demo personnel (not race team) that show up with a couple of years old car... its only really the star drivers that wouldn't be able to attend...

Indeed and if my memory serves me right, Lewis was a no show this year. We could still get the likes of a very popular Jenson Button and perhaps even get the likes of Webber and Massa over.

I'm lucky enough to live nearby and I do feel for those that have already booked flights, hotels etc.

Official email from GRRC:

As Christmas fast approaches, it brings with it confirmation of the 2017 Formula 1 calendar. This new calendar reveals the Baku race has moved one week later and therefore the previously announced provisional dates for the 2017 Festival of Speed will change, and are now confirmed as June 29th to July 2nd. This will allow the F1 teams and drivers to be present so you can get up close to the amazing cars and watch as they put on an incredible display roaring up the Hillclimb.

Tickets are selling faster than ever so make sure you buy yours today to gain access to the world’s largest automotive garden party and the huge variety of cars, bikes, drivers and riders we’re currently putting together for you.

We hope to see you there.

Team attendance isn't the only issue though. It's been discussed here before but from memory there are key personnel required (BARC perhaps?) that aren't available when an F1 race is on.

The Revival dates are also provisional on the FIA calendar and none of the F1 teams attend that.
