Well, as good as this day is I can't work out how they decided what to put where. Some clearly deserved to be where they were parked but for others the rationale for placement was less clear. And why were there so many empty areas on the circuit itself??

We were all put in the carpark and told the paddock was full at 7.15, only to walk through to the circuit and see it empty, not much point registering to have to park in the carpark, when the circuit is empty.

They were still parking cars on the circuit around 8.30 at the end of the Lavant straight.

It would have been nice to keep cars from the same manufacturer in the same area, Cant be that hard if you have pre registered.

I had no issues, arrived at 0830 straight onto the circuit. Personally if I have a pass and I'm parked anywhere within the circuit boundaries then I'm happy, I'd only be annoyed if I had a grid pass and wasn't allowed on the grid.

As for keeping cars of the same manufacturer together that would be boring and also hard to manage for the volunteers on the day.

Yes, it would horrendous for the marshalls to group cars which arrive over a 3 hour period together. The variety is the best thing, you never know what you are going to see and if there was an area of just, say, Renaults many people would just avoid it.

Keep it as it is, an informal breakfast meet not a car show.

Oliver.

It was a really good morning with a really decent selection of cars from all ages & a pair of Group B legends! I couldn't decide which was my favourite till I saw that Delta S4. What a car that was! As for road legal stuff? The green Mk1 Golf GTI with the really nice plate on it.

Some (rather a lot!) of pics for you all to enjoy! https://flic.kr/s/aHskNbWRuV

As for grouping them all? i.e. same make & model next to each other? That would destroy the fun of seeing different cars & ages side by side. A 205 GTI next to a brand new Focus RS is more fun then Focus RS's grouped together.

Shame the breakfast clubs are over really, but gives more of a reason to look forward to next years!

I arrived at 7-20 with a pass and got put in the car park on the right just as you go in. Not terribly impressed to see all the unused space.

I went in at 7:50 and parked on Lavant, I didn't enter via the main gates but a side entrance.
Not as many older cars as I'd hoped for really either, but good to catch up with people.

I was one of the first there this morning and while waiting to be allowed on I was chatting to a couple of the stewards, they were saying how over subscribed the event was. I always feel everything at Goodwood is well run, particularly for a free event. It's a fantastic setting and everyone is warm and friendly.

Here-here, well said.. I successfully left my pass on the printer this morning but the stewards recognised the car and directed me through appropriately even though I was quite happy to park in the non registered public car parks.

Part of me wishes we still had the 'benign dictatorship' method, but at least pre-registration gives the stewards a ballpark figure on circuit access...

I'm not sure how an event like this gets over subscribed when they have control over the number of entrants. They know precisely how many they can handle and there shouldn't be any surprises on the day when they manage the arrivals, even if they do turn up earlier than expected.

A friend of mine phoned me to ask where my car was and he hadn't realised they'd filled the car park on the right with entrants as well.

That car park has always been used, often not for themed cars but for interesting cars and motorbikes. There is often a lot of people browsing the car park and the pass does say "site access" which as I understand it the car park is certainly within the site.

I've had a number of people ask me where my car was as they never saw it despite registering as a themed car many months beforehand. Awareness seems to have been low. There are very few photo threads around including the car park.
I don't have a problem with the arrangement per se and I agree on the term 'site access' but I personally was disappointed to have spent so many hours preparing the car to find myself there when I noticed so much empty space inside the circuit. The tarmac area at Woodcote was empty which I'm sure I've always seen used previously.

That's life as they say! rolleyes

I don't think there was a problem with people turning up early, I'd stayed at the hotel on Saturday evening so it was just 30 seconds down the road. I think it's one of those things where you can't please everybody all of the time. As I said, I always feel that things are run well there and for a free event it is very good.
