Goodwood Festival of Speed 2017 - Which tickets to buy?

Hi everbody,

I'm from the Netherlands and I'm planning on going to Festival of Speed for the first time. The plan is to attend all 4 days, and I'm looking at which tickets to buy.
The most obvious choice would be to buy the 'Admission Only'-Weekend-tickets at £154. Another option would be to upgrade to 'Weekend Admission and Grandstand Package' at £284.

My question is: is the 'Grandstand-Package'-upgrade worth the extra money?

I hope someone can clarify this for me.

The festival of speed is a huge show site, if it's your first visit you can easily do 4 days without sitting down. My 4 days generally consist of:

Thursday - view moving motorshow and browse trade stalls.
Friday - view paddocks and spend the day at the rally stage.
Saturday - a bit more paddocks and then settle down near the start and then the house.
Sunday - pitch up on the hill at molecomb and watch the shoot out.

I've been attending for 20 years and have so far not used a grandstand.

Don't forget to bring your car keys. A lot of the brands will provide some sort of hospitality on production of your key.

Ditto from me. I've never bothered with Grandstand, there's too much to do to stay in one place for long.

Another question: what is the best time to go to the festival? I read that the carpark opens at 6.30 a.m...
Is it neccesary to go this early to get a decent parking spot and not having to wait in line for hours?

I'm assuming that it doesn't really matter at what time you enter the festival ground, because you'll be walking around anyway.

Anytime before 8am should avoid the major traffic. Do you know where you're commuting from as there may be some tips we can share on the best route to take.

Make sure you get up to the rally paddock, if you're fit enough I'd avoid the tractor trip as you'll get dusty, a bad back and potentially a long wait.

From what I can tell right now, we're having a hotel in the Portsmouth area. Any tips on the best route would be great!

Hi there,

I'm organising a trip for my husband and friends. We're from Spain and we are going for the 4 day package but we are also considering the grandstand pass. However, reading the comments here I'm not sure if it's worth it because these guys just want to get as close as possible to the cars, drive whatever they can and enjoy the experience to the max.

Is it possible to get a Grandstand pass and pass it to another person in the group? I welcome any advice or tips about the FOS.

I've been going to FoS for about 10 years and have never paid for Grandstand seating. I only go for 2 days and find that there is enough to see without sitting down. If I was going for 4 days I'd probably book a Grandstand seat for Sunday.

.. unless you're thinking of moving motorshow day on thursday, you won't be able to drive any of the cars!

(also, don't bother with grandstands... )
