It was probably nothing whatsoever to do with the knock-of centrelock wheels. Think of how many Grand Prix and leMans cars had them.

Far more likely to be a splined hub failure (behind the inner taper), with the splined hub and spinner being still firmly attached to the wheel when it entered the crowd (as shown in certain angles on video).
Ah tight thanks, that makes sense…… but also opens up another issue whereby the car is now producing considerably more power than period but due to FIA app k(?)regs, components such as driveshafts etc have to remain as per period design and construction so can now longer cope with the power… to say nothing of the improvements in tyres…
I saw pretty much exactly the same failure at Luffield at Silverstone one year in the '90's - a very nicely prepared Austin Healey Sprite IIRC. Of course we don't know what caused it, but I know from bitter experience that some reproduction parts I've bought for my own E-Type aren't as good as originals. Back in the early 00's, I used to help a friend of mine with his single-seater Wolsley Hornet. He bought new half shafts, and one failed almost immediately - I think it was becasue of incorrect heat treatment, and/or the wrong grade of steel. Again, shouldn't jump to conclusions, but I would expect NDT of splined hubs might be a good idea for cars being demonstrated in future.

Looks like MB World was a good alternative today (was it Mercedes owners only?) They put the idea forward list night and turned it around for this morning https://twitter.com/robhalloway/status/16802689797...

I believe in some historic championships it is stipulated that components have to be crack checked and the documents presented at scrutineering.

We were going to be heading down today, 06.40 flight to Gatwick, car hire, hotel and then return flight… quite a cost.
I take it there is no way to recoup travel costs due to event cancellation?
Thought not. ??
M
annual travel insurance wth your bank? option for event insurance when buying ticket?
I have annual travel insurance with my bank but it has the same exclusion clause, does not cover overnight stay trip.

Here’s a pretty good video showing the way the site is at th moment - there’s lots of stuff been moved and put away. It’s going to be a fair job to get it all back out in the morning…

Serious overnight shifts considering they've confirmed that they are opening at 7am as normal tomorrow, incredible amount of work to be done, presumably later this evening when this wind dies off.
Aye. But the trouble is it’s still blowing 30+ knots here (a few miles from GW). And forecast is for gusts of 7 overnight and into tomorrow. Not going to be easy sadly.

They've announced a rollover or refund options for Saturday tickets and should be announcing the 2024 date fairly soon. For what it's worth, it's almost certainly going to be Saturday July 13th.

If they've got everything back up and in place then a huge well done to the staff who must have busted a ball for the last 24 hours.

Quite a few cars missing first thing, but most covers left off the paddock tents, which seems very sensible.

I suspect we will be hearing that Saturday is a sell out for next year. Will be interesting how they manage weekend tickets for those who rollover

They are morons and trolls and situations like this one bring them out of the woodwork in droves.

Someone did make the sensible suggestion of simply ignoring anything they post.

Goodwood have stated that you can only get a refund. They are not going to offer the option to rollover to next year.

Why would they not? That's a years worth of interest on all that cash.

GRRC have had the option to rollover so assumed it applied to all.

I imagine they can raise prices for a new ticket next year & that'd generate more that the interest on the cash on a rolled over ticket would.

Plus, there's the issue, of not knowing how many people would choose to roll over or take a refund instead.
If a large percentage chose to roll-over, that puts a huge limit on numbers for next year, and then if by co-incidence, there was problems next year, you could hardly then have a roll-over of a roll-over, so can understand, why, logistically, they would rather refund only.

Looks like they’ve changed their stance based on the original FAQs published on Friday. The actual email sent today says this…

Roll overs or refund

Saturday general admission tickets
Saturday Kinrara pass
Saturday grandstand pass
Programme vouchers for those with a Saturday ticket only

Refund only, cannot be rolled over

Performance parking
Helicopter flights
Restaurants

Not available for roll over or refund

Camping

I bought my tickets 'second hand' from the thread on here. I hope I will still be able to roll them over to next year despite not being the original owner. Only loss for me is my boy will be 13 by then so not free!
