FYI it will be the risk assessment BUT also linked to insurance conditions.

Our local famers market has to be cancelled if the forecasts are above 30mph as a condition of their liability insurance (ok, different scale but same principle)
The summer fair in my Mother's village has been cancelled too. They are citing insurance as the reason. I see Longleat is closed today as well.
It's alternating between bright sunshine and heavy showers where we are (near Bristol), but the harbour festival is going ahead, albeit not as busy as usual.
Wisley Gardens is also shut today, which is understandable due to the large amount of mature trees around the site. There would be no way FoS would be able to guarantee all their trees would be safe for today.

At least we have Big Jet TV instead of Goodwood Youtube live feed.

Really! Cars can’t cope with 24mph wind and 40mph gust? That’s if it happens cos’ the forecast this July hasn’t been predicted accurately by the Met Office. Is this more climate change BS?

Just the sort of person I avoid in life. Blinkered and ignorant, it would seem.

As far as I can tell from those on site last night, a lot of stuff was being loaded back into their transports to ride out any issues with the weather. Given conditions aren't expected to begin to settle until after 10pm tonight, they have one hell of a job to re-prepare the site for 7am Sunday.
My son was doing this yesterday. As far as I can see it took them until 3am to put it all away . I can't see them getting it all out again tonight, only to repeat again on Sunday night. That's just my guess not something I know.
I am 10 miles from Goodwood and it's been a fairly nice day today.Much better than yesterday. Quite windy but nothing yet too alarming.
I do support those who had to make the decision though .

A colleague mentioned Windsor Great Park was going to be closed today as well. It seems everyone has been taking the same approach.

Whoever was responsible for the dedication to cancel needs sacking. Beautiful day and not too windy!

That's a daft comment really. The decision would be based on the best meteorological information available at the time. They had to make a decision one way or the other last night to stop people travelling early for no reason, and causing even more upset. Better safe than sorry.

I’m sure you will be happy to take on the insurance liability based in balance of probability then?

As mentioned earlier, I raced at a club meet at Mallory with gusts lower than that. Many cars damaged and sadly some people due to flying debris.

Anyone who thinks this decision was taken lightly is an idiot. Lots of things closed today due to high winds. Currently staying at Center Parcs in Longleat. Safari Park is closed today. Just the times we live in afraid.

Even Jerry is having technical issues ..... I'll be watching solent ships later to see how the cruise ships handle it. RIAT is also having issues.

We're just putting it the "very disappointed, but there you go" category, and keeping our fingers crossed that Flying Legends still goes ahead tomorrow. At least I've not had to drive 9 hours today..but that's little consolation.
I just got home to North Wales after a seven hour drive down yesterday and a six and a half hour return trip today. “Very disappointed but there you go” sums it up to be honest. Been looking forward to it for ages.

Ended up going to Beaulieu Motor Museum instead. You could definitely tell that a lot of people from Goodwood had the same idea, queue was massive to get in but honestly it took around 20 minutes to get through it.

Nice enough day out but the wind was getting pretty bad by the time I got back so I'm not surprised they had to cancel FoS.

Props to whoever turned up in a 430 Scuderia!

We were going to be heading down today, 06.40 flight to Gatwick, car hire, hotel and then return flight… quite a cost.
I take it there is no way to recoup travel costs due to event cancellation?
Thought not. ??
M
Why didn't you take the flight? You'd be refunded by FoS but there's some lovely areas in that neck of the woods - nice weekend away with some cash back in your account next week.

Omg, everyone should stay indoors tomorrow!
And with uneven ground - and tree branches!!! - that place sounds like a death-trap.

FFS.
I’ve been at Mallory in lower winds than that, it was chaos, marquees etc flying around, plenty of cars damaged and a few people injured. It’s not a ‘FFS’ situation.
An absolute bugger for all involved. I imagine that this is mainly a function of the 'motorsport is dangerous' caveat just not extending to cover someone getting harpooned by something that wasn't tied down sufficiently.

I’m not sure where you are, but I live in north Chichester only a mile or so ans the crow flys form Goodwood and it’s very windy, with strong gusts and lots of bits flying around from trees. I wouldn’t want to be there today. It was miserable enough there later in the day yesterday in the rain!

We've been down in Devon near Bantham and Revelstoke and I can't believe how out of kilter the Met office forecasts were. Most days were completely back to front....sat in blazing sun whilst they're saying I should be soaked through. On another day it was supposed to be brightening up in Bantham by about 11am. Well, it did. For 2 minutes. Then it absolutely hammered down, the likes I've never seen outside of SE Asia. Completely wet to the bone within about 5 minutes and of course, I was at the furthest point from the car park hehe
