The poster above going to Mercedes Benz World - Brooklands is just next door across the river Wey, and is a lovely museum to spend a few hours wandering round.
They’ll pop over there if there’s time later. They’ve had a result so far, MB pulled the FOS team back to MBW so they’re getting to see some decent stuff anyway!Edited by bristolbaron on Saturday 15th July 11:47

Anyone who thinks this decision was taken lightly is an idiot. Lots of things closed today due to high winds. Currently staying at Center Parcs in Longleat. Safari Park is closed today. Just the times we live in afraid.
Exactly. Also it probably wasn't a decision for them to make (per se), they would have to look at the forecast and their insurance clauses and apply one to the other.

Whoever was responsible for the dedication to cancel needs sacking. Beautiful day and not too windy!
I’m not sure where you are, but I live in north Chichester only a mile or so ans the crow flys form Goodwood and it’s very windy, with strong gusts and lots of bits flying around from trees. I wouldn’t want to be there today. It was miserable enough there later in the day yesterday in the rain!Diderot said:

I suspect that after someone got ttted with a wheel t'other day they feel very much under the H&S microscope and the decision to cancel was easier than it might otherwise have been.
^^^^^ This 100%. There would have been a lot of very twitchy insurers after that wheel issue and the decision to be better safe than sorry was probably taken.

Chain-link fencing, moving spectators further back and/or a speed limit next year?
In my humble opinion, fencing will kill the event. It's the unique closeness that still offers a huge attraction.

I agree, but I get the impression that won't last long. You expect it to then die a death, but it seems like the audience gradually changes to those who've never known any different (like with modern F1). O/T, but it seems like some members of the current F1 crowd wouldn't be out of place at a football match judging by foul-mounthed chanting I've seen online.
Quite - I fell in love with motor sport because it was then almost devoid of the ghastly tribalism and godawful behaviour which affected , and still affects many ball sports. There were only the tifosi , but they were very friendly when we sat among them at Imola . But jeez .. the DtS converts ask me whom I support . And look bemused when I reply that I only support close racing , and rarely care very much who wins. I fear I am now in a small minority - let's call it an elite ?
It just needs some sensible management of cars capabilities. Doing a burnout in a Mk2 jag with knock off wheel nuts, then drifting round a corner isn’t *that* sensible so may be a “you can only do a burn out or drift with wheels fixed by more than one bolt” type thing…
We’ve often spectated at Goodwood circuit during the revival or members meeting and thought you need to be looking up the track for a stray wheel from a race car or something. Problem at FoS is how busy the pinch points/best viewing areas are though I always maintain the best place to view is the first 100m from the start line.
I can’t see catch fencing at a temporary event such as at FoS, surely they would just the event changing into a new/supercar parade and a motor show type affair with the occasional historic car too. Personally I think there’s a gap in the market now the traditional motor show format is dead and Goodwood could really exploit it. Many more appear to be interested in the latest Lamborghini Aventador CBR1000RR than a Porsche 917 so why not just start focusing on that market?
The revival, members meeting, Silverstone classic, VSCC and HSCC events have all the historic content you could ask for at, as far as the last two events are concerned, on the whole, considerably less financial outlay.

It was probably nothing whatsoever to do with the knock-of centrelock wheels. Think of how many Grand Prix and leMans cars had them.Far more likely to be a splined hub failure (behind the inner taper), with the splined hub and spinner being still firmly attached to the wheel when it entered the crowd (as shown in certain angles on video).
Here’s a pretty good video showing the way the site is at th moment - there’s lots of stuff been moved and put away. It’s going to be a fair job to get it all back out in the morning…

Serious overnight shifts considering they've confirmed that they are opening at 7am as normal tomorrow, incredible amount of work to be done, presumably later this evening when this wind dies off.https://youtu.be/rffcwoJWWZA

Ah tight thanks, that makes sense…… but also opens up another issue whereby the car is now producing considerably more power than period but due to FIA app k(?)regs, components such as driveshafts etc have to remain as per period design and construction so can now longer cope with the power… to say nothing of the improvements in tyres… Far more likely to be a splined hub failure (behind the inner taper), with the splined hub and spinner being still firmly attached to the wheel when it entered the crowd (as shown in certain angles on video).
