I haven't been for a couple of years but would welcome the addition of some plane to the show after all Goodwood has aviation history.

Only thing which I didn't like about the last FOS I went to was the number of mass production manufacturers there, it looked very similar to my local industrial estate, I couldn't be bothered to stop and look in the local show rooms so have little interest in paying to walk around there latest offerings.

I'm sure the first few years I went there were more smaller stands from more specialist companies, but I guess as the event has become more an more popular the manufacturers want to get more involved.

they need to prioritise the way funds are allocated... (apparently) they have "staff" earning large sums of money. I know they are staff and need to earn a wage, but it needs to be controlled...

According to the website, staff costs for 2008/9 were 400,478GBP, out of a total cost of 1,697,773GBP, or about 25%. How does that compare to a similar sized "normal" business?

Also on the website, under Commonly Asked Questions:
"How are costs being controlled?
We believe our staffing level has been trimmed to the minimum level of engineers, ground support, logistics crew and admin staff needed to maintain the project as a viable operation.
We support these with many volunteers, whilst bringing in experienced consultants to offer support in areas where we only need occasional time or project based work. Our management team works tirelessly to extract the best value out of every single pound donation you make."

No so... I don't have last yr's prices to hand but I think the tickets were the same price.. We have also held our prices since the VAT change.

Since 2004 the Friday price has risen from £20 to £35 in a period of low inflation! The weekend ticket has gone from £80 to over the ton, but this is comparatively not bad when compared to the cost of major entertainment events (in the joy per hour paid for equation!). Clearly the Goodwood marketing team have done there sums and realised that they weren't making enough from the Friday crowd. Friday is no longer a 'loss leader' but very much an event for many in its own right.

Which stands does a 'Roving Grandstand' ticket allow one to enter, I would like to be able to get into the 'smartest/emptiest' stand, do I need to join the GRRC to do this?

A roving ticket is exactly that this year.. you can get into all of the stands with one.. Natuarally, with the roving system, the emptiest may be the least popular so the smartest/emptiest isn't really relevant. If you put yourself on the waiting list for the GRRC, once you get a place, you will have the ability to purchase a ticket to the Kinrara enclosure which has an excellent grandstand which is never full to capacity. It also offers a relatively quiet place to spend your time when watching the cars run up the hill and not walking around the event.. To put yourself on the list - go to www.goodwood.com/grrc and select the application tab - complete the form and send it to us. At the moment, the wait is around 18 months for a place.

Cheers,
J

I could have told you that last time I went back in 2007.

After spending 3 1/2 hr's trying to get the Chim out of the carpark (after the heavy rain), I wrote to the Goodwood Estate suggesting that it might be a good idea for them to lay down metal roadways so this wouldn't happen again, (it was the 2nd time in two years).

The letter I got back from them basicly said, "If you don't like it then don't come. We can sell out every year, so we really couldn't give a toss about one little fan / pleb like you".

Up untill that point I had done the FOS or the Revival every year since it's conception.
I find it very hard to believe you received that kind of response from anyone on the Estate. Do you still have it? I'd be very keen to find out who's sending things like that out. PM me please if yoiu still have the details.
Cheers,
J

The tickets where cheaper..but only by a Quid per ticket.(they seem to go up by around £1 to £3 every year)..Saturday 'used to be' a cheaper ticket price than the sunday too. But to be fair, you do get the rally stage at goodwood with over 30 rally cars on show...there was no rally stage 6 years ago

Thanks for that, so to gain a seat in the grandstand of my choice, I should arrive early and not move? Think I'll have a word with you over the phone in the week to sort something out.
