I know the Goodwood Competitions Manager a little and corresponded with him a couple of years ago to this effect. I noted that the DAF and Mick Hill's Beetle were in attendance last year and there were a significant number of the ERAs at the Revival so maybe my suggestions didn't fall on deaf ears. This is a personal list so prose reflects that.

- Sauber C291 Group C car. Flat 12 solution to the 3.5l formula and a car I've never seen before.

- Panoz GT1 or LMP car. Amazing that they managed to produce such good results. Be great to get David Brabham back in one.

- The prototype Group 7 Porsche 917 Flat 16. I understand it resides in the Porsche museum.

- Ferraris 312T through to 312T5. Never seen all 5 together, but what a nice way to celebrate 30yrs since Jody Scheckter's championship.

- Some kind of F2/F3000/GP2 celebration. Perhaps a selection of the most successful or innovative machines.

- As above, Marc Surer in the BMW March 792. He was absolute magic in the early years of the Festival.

- Monster trucks. A radical new spectacle for Goodwood. Maybe running on the same track as the Bowler Wildcats.

- The monsters of British club racing. As a lad I grew up on the banks of Oulton Park watching anything with four wheels. Numerous cars really excited me, particularly the Thundersaloons, Intermarque GT cars and the sports/saloon specials. A few ideas - Baby Bertha (not the same without Gerry, I know. He was amazing at the Festival in 2002, was it?); a TVR Tuscan (maybe Ian Flux, Mike Jordan or Mark Hales at the wheel); the V8 Daf Supersaloon; one of the thre Marsh Plant Hire Aston V8s, as campaigned by Gerry Marshall; David Ellis's Aston V8 which held the Oulton Park outright lap record for a time; Tony Sugden's Skoda 130R-Cosworth; the Pete Stevens/John Cleland Thundersaloon Vauxhall Carlton; Rod Birley's epic Honda Prelude or Escort Cosworth; Malcolm Hamilton's 7.0l Jaguar E-Type.

- All 18 ERAs. Bit of an ask that one...

- Given its pretentions as a hillclimb, a look at some past/present hillclimbers and their racers would be great. Scott Moran in his Gould could threaten Nick Heidfeld's hill record. Roy Lane would entertain and maybe you could tempt Andy Priaulx into a Pilbeam of the kind he used to win the championship...

- Bring back the Dakar trucks!

- A celebration of 6-wheeled GP cars. The Williams FW08 was an early Goodwood highlight for me. Perhaps get the March (was it a 761?) and one of the Tyrrell P34s out.

- The unique Chevron B37 F5000 car. Simon Hadfield ran it in recent years and he could easily get a sub-50 secs run in the dry. Also interesting would be the stillborn Chevron B41 GP car. I don't know if it survives.

- An example of the Lola T600. Over-looked by the 50th birthday celebrations this year in the press, it would be very special to re-unite Brian Redman and one of these cars, following his 1981 IMSA title.

- A tribute to "The Lost Generation" of Roger Williamson, Tony Brise and Tom Pryce featuring March 721X, Shadow DN5 and Embassy Hill Lola. Perhaps including the late David Purley's Lec would be appropriate and interesting too.

- BRM V16 - it's been a few years...

- The Intrepid IMSA GTP cars. American Brian De Vries has both cars and they are mega. He'd be quick up the hill.

- The stillborn BRM Group C car which had the Weslake V12 and later became an open top sports prototype which tried the ISRS in the late 1990s.

- A handful of rallycross stars - Will Gollop, Martin Shanche and Per Eklund would all be great fun.

- With the unification of American open wheel racing, getting Scott Dixon, Dan Wheldon or one of the other big star turns in one of their cars would be great. Maybe even Danica. Could she out-hype Lewis?

- As above, but for Aussie V8 Supercars. Mark Skaithe or Craig Lowndes would be great and they'd love the event.

- The "lowline" Brabham BT55.

- Also, two BT49s are regularly campaigned by Christian Glasel and Joachim Folch - they'd be great to see on the hill.

- Peugeot 905 Evo 2 "Supercopter" Group C car, which apparently still exists, but never raced.

- Porsche 961, the 959-based Group B car which is another rarely seen; if ever.

Yeah, this was stuff I'd like to see as a long-term enthusiast. All a bit geeky, but for me the best part of Goodwood has always been seeing the cars I'd never dare dream of seeing in the flesh. I had a photo of Rod Millen's Pike's Peak Toyota Celica on my wall when I was 12. Can't believe I actually got to see it driven in anger. It's that kind of fantasy stuff which made me fall in love with the Festival as an over-enthusiastic pre-teen. All the F1 drivers and major car manufacturers are just a sideshow compared to the unusual and ridiculous. Last year the highlight for me was the appearance of David Franklin in the Ferrari V12 312P. I've owned a model of it for probably 10 years, and seen the later flat-12 cars but never an early V12 coupe.
