Well it was my first FOS and I have to say the whole family thought it was ace!
Where else on the planet can you look over one shoulder and see an F1 car blast past, then look over your other shoulder and see a WRC car thrash round a stage. And then look up and see the red arrows.
Of coure for the same money you could go to a footy match, get your car keyed, see 22 overpaid jesses kick a ball round for 90 minutes and possibly get belted by one of the hordes of thugs that attend. Whilst there you can wade through mountains of litter (of which there was none at Goodwood) and visit the filthy bogs (the Gw ones were pretty immaculate considering it was a hot saturday).
Quite frankly, I felt it was awesome value for money, well organised, virtually no queing to get in and out (arrived 9.30, left about 6) and had a very friendly atmosphere as well. Oh, And I got jensons autograph for my daughter in law.
Anyone who moans about it needs a good slap and a reality check IMHO.

Well this was my first time, and to be honist i was let down by it.
Great to see such rare expensive cars in great senery, but it seem very f1 aimed, the fact i walked all the way to the top of the hill to be told we couldn't cross, because, that was all they had to say. Whats the point in a crossing if you can't cross?
wow it was dusty and the rally track was miles away, however if you had a weekend ticket i recon the event would be so much better

Yep, If you're a petrolhead, one day simply isn't enough to see everything.Great to see such rare expensive cars in great senery, but it seem very f1 aimed, the fact i walked all the way to the top of the hill to be told we couldn't cross, because, that was all they had to say. The thursday was good to look at the cars and then one of the race days to see them go up the hill/rally stage. My mate came with me for his first time there and we did manage to see nearly everything but we were pretty tired afterwards as it was quite rushed.
Sunday was probably one of the best days out I've ever had to be fair, it's not just the cars but all the other stuff gong on like the music, planes etc

That's a good point, The Red Arrows were on the same time as the F1 cars going up the hill. I thought at the time it would be better to split these 2 main attractions into their own time slots.
While the Red Arrows will have a scheduled time slot for their display this could have varied during the day because of some other occurrence outside their control. I expect the hill runs proceed according to Goodwood's schedule and the air displays are programmed the best they can be around this, it was probably unfortunate rather than intentional. I thought this FOS was a particularly good one. The one thing that did make me frown a bit was the number of cars / bikes that ignored red flags being waved franticaly by marshalls. The marshall with the bandana who was positioned by the track in front of the house must have thought he was invisible at times
i think it was one of the best ones i have been to in the last 10years well organized batches, red arrows are usually at the same time as f1 but thats just the way it goes.rally stage excellent as usual, red bull x fighters awesomw saturday shame about wind on sunday.
havent been in grandstand an d still manage to see everything, its a bit of a trek to the top but suck it up people its once a year!!!

I'd like to see your face if you were crossing when a 800BHP NASCAR came thundering on up Great to see such rare expensive cars in great senery, but it seem very f1 aimed, the fact i walked all the way to the top of the hill to be told we couldn't cross, because, that was all they had to say. Well, I wouldn't say it was the greatest FOS ever as there did seem to be far fewer cars than in previous years. However, it's still a fantastic event. Where else can you freely wander around the pits while guys are tinckering and firing up priceless classic machinery like this? Standing right next to something like a Porsche 917K, Tyrrell Cosworth or some of the beautiful pre-war machinery while it's being revved up is just an awesome experience and something I never tire of each year!
I think it's still excellent value for money too, considering the standard of cars the event draws (the rarities on the cartier style et luxe lawn always amaze me) and all the other entertainment on offer, although the food is a bit on the pricey side

I agree with everything above.. that why I always take sandwiches!I think it's still excellent value for money too, considering the standard of cars the event draws (the rarities on the cartier style et luxe lawn always amaze me) and all the other entertainment on offer, although the food is a bit on the pricey side
Why do people always have to moan when we should count ourselves lucky that we have such an outstanding event in our country. Where else are you going to see such an selection of historic racing cars that are normally tucked away in private or manufacturer car collections. Alot of the cars will never be raced again, but seeing and hearing them go up the hill is much better than just looking at a static display. I've been going for the last 12 years and I always look foward to it as much as the previous year.

On a similar theme, I was a bit disappointed that one of the 'Guitar moments' on Sunday coincided with a Helicopter display team. So instead of Gibbons, Beck and Vaughan playing live music we listened to some bloke waffling on about how helicopters work.andygo said:

Compared to F1, Goodwood offer superb value for money and I for one will continue to support it
Thanks to all at the Goodwood estate for a great weekend

What anoyed me is we walked to the top left of the hill, last car had just rolled pasted us, to head back down the hill, why can't they open it? they wanted us to wait until the next two batches had gone. Wheres the sense in that?
