I've been going for the past 12 years and still think there is something for all motorsport enthusiasts to see and enjoy. Some may say it is expensive but for the price and the diversity there is nothing to beat it, and with a bit of pre-planning you can save money. I had tickets for Thursday, Friday and Saturday (free tickets for Thursday through a link on the forums, free ticket for Friday from local paper - buy a Sat or Sun ticket get Friday free), so three days for £50 - result.
Only spanner in the works this year was my wife went into labour on Friday evening and I spent most of Saturday in the maternity suite at Worthing Hospital.
So second best sight for me this year was the Grand Sport Corvette (one of five) in the cathedral paddock, only beaten by seeing our daughter being born Saturday morning.
As people have said you can't please all the people all the time, but as long as Lord March keeps providing the eclectic mix of race cars, road cars and all manner of other things I will be there watching.

Well I went to the Festival of Speed last week and came away with a somewhat negative feeling as follows:

- very formulaic; the same attractions in the same places (Porsche off-road, mad Land Rover hybris rally racing at the top, the 'too far to walk; forrester stages, those damn helicopters whizzing up every minute and loads of dust
- everything way over priced for what you got (£7.00 for a beef roll etc)
- those bl**dy bales of hay that stop you seeing anything!
- the fact that (unlike the Revival) this isn't done on a race circuit none of the cars ever really open up; it's more like a parade than racing

Not sure if I'll be going next year. Does anyone else feel this way or is it just me!?
Think it seems to be just you!! I for one thought it was a fantastic event. Only 'gripe' was that there was so much to see in one day meaning I didn't see everything!! (oh, and wish the other F1 drivers would have give it the beans like Massa did but apart from that, great event)

Didn't go this year, but did last year and loved it. My main gripe was the rally stage, they could do with some bridges otherwise you have to wait ages to cross, which when you're trying to be somewhere for a certain time is not on.

I felt like this a couple of years ago and didn't go as a result.

Went this year on the Thursday with no cars running (except the motor show), and absolutely loved it.

I think you gt too used to it, so worth taking a break and maybe trying the Silverstone Classic, Pau or Angouleme classic GP's in France, or the Gurston Down/Prescott Hill-climbs for a change.

I think maybe we are just spoiled with possibly the best motor show and revival in the world at Goodwood !

Given that it is possible to do all 4 days for £100 if you now how, and that there is something for everyone from rally to F1 to custom cars, shopping, air displays, concours event and star drivers what is there to fault? I think the problem is peoples prior expectations of what this event should be like, possibly based on going to other events first. The site is huge, the food is probably a bit expensive and there is SO much to see. The thing is though if it were that bad why does it just get bigger and better every year? This year was one of the best and if you want to get the best out of next year then some planning is in order. Try to do all four days because its the only way to see it properly. Take your own food if that keeps cost down and bottles can be refilled with water at the many standpipes and get there early to get good positions. We would all moan a lot more if there were NO Festival.

For me it was wonderful - yet again! - however, getting there first thing at 7am on Thursday and Friday and wandering through the event, why do they feel it necessary to play bird song and country noises through the PA system? felt a bit naff that did. 'twas funny though when I saw a gaggle of midgets walking round first thing, I thought nothing of it apart from having a little chuckle to myself and then seeing them later on as part of the Wacky Racers! biggrin

Where else can you see the 6 wheeled Tyrrel, Mclaren's Le Mans winning GTR, rally cars, supercars, classic racing cars, motorbikes etc etc and buy a good read all in one event?

Do they not use that birdsong to test the PA? much like the stupid birdsong dab station.

Enjoyed Goodwood this year, although it seemed to me like there were less cars all round compared to previous years, was still too much to see everything adequately in one day.

Agree with most - not the best FOS ever - no real showstoppers - even the F1 boys were subdued. The commentary on the Supercar run was appalling. I had a roving grandstand ticket on Saturday - well worth the wedge - the view from Park GS - opposite the house is excellent. But we'll all be back next year - just in case we miss something!

my first ever time at goodwwod.

only managed to get down there for the Thursday, but had an excellent time.

As an engineer i must admit, my main focus of attention was on the Alpha sculpture (!) but it was great to soak up the atmospher, have a wander and drool over the cars.

just spotted a video on youtube, talking to the designer Gerry Judah, quite interesting..if that think floats your boat!

makes me laugh all this.

people complaing about food prices.... surely everyone knows prices are going to be high. so here's a thought, bring your own?
dust from the rally......WTF?! its a proper staged rally course. what do you expect. hold it on tarmac?!
the hay bales?! what can you say?!

if you dont like it, then dont go! like some one said, it isnt the revival. it doesnt pretend to be. where else can you get so close to the cars, the drivers and the action?!

some people.........................

Well, if folk think Goodwood food prices were bad, my missus paid 12 Euros for a burger (sans pain) et frites at the Le Mans Classic last weekend. We took sandwiches to all 3 days at the FoS the weekend before and felt more comfortable in terms of both wallet and arteries. I think of all the events I've been to, Goodwood has the widest range of catering anywhere. Try Spa by means of comparison...

By not blowing your dosh on unhealthy food - it means you have more spare cash for essentials, like motoring books and models.

Trouble is ,the dust was not coming from the rally stage (that was mostly chalk dust and stayed in the trees). the dust cloud was coming from the dirt kicked up by the porsche off road and the off road karts and quads..all right next to one of the main car parks!! .now i go to lydden hill for the rallycross, (they will water down the track if the dust gets to bad)...why could goodwood not do this for the 'off road rides'?. instead a lot of people had their pride and joy covered in ste from nothing more than a few poxy 'fun kart rides'!!

Well it was likely either sausage in a baguette or a waffle. After three days one does become rather sick of waffles and sausages...And the campsite toilets are not places you'd wish to become overly familiar with either.

Eric Mc makes the valid point of saving money for merch - the cash we saved by taking packed lunches paid for a useful chunk of the "stuff" I purchased over the weekend. I do think, though, that one of the Goodwood organic burgers is a nice indulgence once over the weekend - for temporary catering facility food they are really pretty good.

I always go for a steak when I am there smile

Into town and if you are at the top of the road, facing the way to the circuit, there is a restaurant on the left (just past the newsagents that also sell models) with outside seating, I forget the name of it, but always lovely smile

I intend to go again this September so I will make a note of that. My wife is excellent in that she comes along on all my "car type things" but I think a full day Saturday and a more relaxed day Sunday is ithe order. Perhaps a steak lunch there will be the thing to do. smile
