Is anyone actually going to this event?

Not my cup of tea, but with the nearly daily e.mails from the Goodwood team, I'm beginning to think this is a no/low show and likely loss maker. More concerned with the ramping up of prices for the revival a month later to cover for it.

Any thoughts?

No, I'm not going. As much as I love the Revival and I own a 50s car that's because I like classic cars and historic racing so the 50s attire is incidental to the main car event.

I think people are struggling to understand the central concept that whole Vintage event hangs around, which sounds daft given the flow of information but is it an open air festival, a fashion show, a garden party or what? If you are of a certain age it looks like there are some decent acts performing, Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band should be good but do I want to go dressed up to an open air concert, not really.

So I guess it's one of those things that may be a slow burner or people will come back and rave about it but at the moment I don't get it.

Yes my thoughts on this event too..local newspaper is now giving away a free friday ticket with any weekend ticket brought (you had to pay £55.0 for a friday ticket a couple weeks back!!)..So maybe they are struggling to get people intrested !! the words 'vintage' makes me think of steam rally or something! Not a so called 'cool' music festival !

Really! We've certainly not heard those... With approaching 30,000 tickets sold - it's not going to be a flop.. As with all these things, they take time to gain popularity and understanding. It's not aimed at our usual car or horseracing audience specifically - we're trying to attract a new group of people to Goodwood. In these challenging times - it's usually the more forward thinking businesses that come out the other side on top rather than the ones who are afraid to try something new.

To Sean11 - don't believe everything you hear! wink

Cheers - and I hope to see you all there.. you might be kicking yourselves when you won't be able to say you were at the first one!

+1 Good luck to them - it's something completely new and untried. Hopefully this time next week, we'll be leaving Vintage buzzing after a terrific day!

I think this sort of event needs to be priced a little more competitively , let's face it they don't have the same sort of outlay as the revival surely ? for something new trying to get a foothold in the events calendar what can you compare it to ? it won't have the same niche as the Edinburgh festival or Glastonbury so they need to consider things carefully , especially in the current climate and a few more big names wouldn't hurt Mungo Jerry or the Kinks would get more peoples interest.

It will be interesting to see whether we are faced with the same rip-off prices for food and drink there as the FOS.

Yeah - we've trippled the price - just to upset everyone... Why not bring a packed lunch and save yourself getting upset?

It's a temporary event - held in a field with no permanent services.. Fridges, water, waste disposal and electrricity cost quite a bit to get in on a temporary basis hence why the prices may be higher than you see at permanent events.

Enjoy!

I will probably do just that! I am NOT spending over a fiver for an average sausage in a manky bit of bread again!

I'll be going, mainly because I want to source an outfit for Revival but also because I'm interested in the event. We'll be there all day to take in as much of the event as possible.

And for everyone that constantly complains about the cost of food at Goodwood, you do have a choice. I will be taking a picnic (as I do to most Goodwood events) because I prefer it that way (and I can get champagne much cheaper in the supermarket!).

It is Great to see a new 'twist' being put to the good old music festival of normal. and good luck to goodwood and all the team. smile
But..30.000 ? you got that number by the gate on just day one of the moving motor show! . thats 30,000 spread over three days with two large stage areas and six night clubs, plus all over things going on... its no 'flop' but not really good for an event on this size and scale?! least there will be plenty of space to have a dance wink
