I think I'd go if it wasn't so expensive, it may well be worth the money but as it's the first one there's obviously no real way of knowing!

I know a fair few people who have said the same...

Really! We've certainly not heard those... With approaching 30,000 tickets sold - it's not going to be a flop.. As with all these things, they take time to gain popularity and understanding. It's not aimed at our usual car or horseracing audience specifically - we're trying to attract a new group of people to Goodwood. In these challenging times - it's usually the more forward thinking businesses that come out the other side on top rather than the ones who are afraid to try something new.
It is Great to see a new 'twist' being put to the good old music festival of normal. and good luck to goodwood and all the team. smile
But..30.000 ? you got that number by the gate on just day one of the moving motor show! . thats 30,000 spread over three days with two large stage areas and six night clubs, plus all over things going on... its no 'flop' but not really good for an event on this size and scale?! least there will be plenty of space to have a dance wink
Wait 'till you get there... it's actually not that big. We've now all but sold out for Saturday! And yes - plenty of space for a dance! I think the 80s warehouse is going to be rather busy! As will the 40's torch club with the burlesque dancers and and.... had our first staff briefing tonight and it's all getting quite exciting! Can't wait...

I have just seen LM on the local news saying that £2000 for a tent is extremely good value!!!!!

Mmmmm I just had a week in the Swiss Alps with a detour to the "Ring" & still got a few hundred € left.

To be fair to them there are some very cheap camping options. £15 for the weekend I seem to remember.

But that said...
Anyone paying £2k for a weekends camping in a field in Sussex is off their nut IMHO!

Well I went on Friday, and it was superb.

All done with Goodwood style and quite different to anything I've been to before. A main high-street with dozens of shops, and then smaller marquees behind selling a variety of vintage things, from sunglasses to suits and dresses. Lots of catering too, a big fairground and then several musical stages.

Sadly the weather knocked the edge off a bit, but I'm returning on Sunday which promises sunshine.

I'm not sure how I would describe it really, it's a music festival, a fashion show, a fair, a fete, a picnic......

I stayed on to see Mick Hucknell front The Faces, he was amazing. I've never seen him live and am not a massive fan of Simply Red, but he was brilliant with Ronnie Wood. An amazing performance.

The strangest thing I saw was Steve Diggle of the Buzzcocks being hustled out of the back stage area by bouncers who didn't realise who he was. Diggle was fuming, a bit pissed and I thought punches were about to be thrown.

Just got back in ..... wow, what a day! Absolutely first class fun, difficult to sum up in a few words. Will post some pics tomorrow to give a flavour, but being Goodwood, all was done really well. Roy Wood and The Noisettes were AWESOME!

I regularly attend and exhibit at FoS and Revival and really didn't know what to expect with Vintage. As said before complicated marketing message to get across!

I attended with my wife and two young children on Saturday and now get it!

What an event - well done Goodwood!

I don't know the expectation on numbers but the place seemed packed to me rain and all! Everyone seemed to be having an amazing time.

The attention to detail was great there was a type of music there for everyone.
I can see some people saying the event wasn't big enough but I'm sure Goodwood would counter this by saying you don't normally get all this variety of activities at a festival.

After this year I'm sure that the event will double in size and become as big asFoS

We will definetely be going next year.
I would definetely go again

I love the way in that 2nd picture there are obviously people in modern jeans and jumpers. Why would anyone go to this event in jeans and a jumper? wobble

Perhaps because that's how they feel comfortable.

Did the ticket say 'must wear period costume'?

Edited to add, it appears most people didn't dress up for the occasion. Perhaps they needed to go to get some ideas for next year?

I have no idea - it was a throw away observation of mine, it just seems a bit like going to a fancy dress party but not joining in.

I hear where you're coming from.

To be honest, personally (in my opinion.....) I'm bored of Lord March, his ways of making money and that may have a bearing on my opinion.

My company used to do a lot of work for FOS and Revival and we were dropped because they could buy cheaper. Nothing wrong with that, but two days before Revival some years ago I got a desperate call asking for help as they'd been let down by their 'new supplier' (again apparently) I told them to go away and not call me back, cost me about £25,000 worth of business, but he had made his bed, and I felt comfortable.

Consequently I am bored of this addition before it even started. Oohh, let's add another event and try to fleece our loyal clientele out of more money, for what is, another themed event. I've not been but I must have been sent 30 emails about the bloody event. I think they need to concentrate on existing events and continue to improve those. For LM to also chat on TV about how £2000 is good value for camping, (unless I misread a post?) shows just how out of touch that man is.

And breath........ wink

Re dress, the weather forecast was really pretty lousy, so a lot of people, self included, came dressed for the elements. When it tipped down, it REALLY came down!

I was up there and thought that the minority were the ones that did not dress up for the occasion. They certainly stood out more than those that made an effort.

I have been critical of the events occasionally as I am not one who likes to be ripped off. However, yesterday was one of the best days out I have had in the UK in a long time! The event was very well organised for it's first year. Sure there were a few annoyances but the atmosphere really made up for it. I will definitely be going next year assuming the continue along the same lines with music and format.

I am (genuinely) pleased for you and glad you had a good day.

I'll go to FOS when I can, and enjoy it. But that'll be it for me.

I went again today (Sunday) and it was superb.... I'm not sure how much it would cost to go to a 'normal' festival, but Vintage seems somewhat of a bargain. Here are a few snaps from today for those that couldn't go....

There were some weird guys

Some cool guys

A trapped teddy

Some girls

The Feeling

Some more Feeling

Beverley Knight (boy can she sing)

Sophie Ellis Bexter (better than Fridays performance)

Glen Tillbrook

...and then my camera battery ran out! Also starring were Tony Christie

So you missed a fine chance to prove that your business could deliver where others couldn't and missed £25k... Hope you're busy elsewhere.

Thought the event sounded risky but glad the concept worked.

Camping was fifteen quid for the weekend, I assume the 2k was to hire something relatively special to camp/sleep in?

The event was superb by the way, the various club venues all worked really well. Dancing under the stars in the warehouse venue on Saturday night to Mesrs Park & Weatherall cloud9 certainly took me back to my late teens!

I Will be going back next year, believe they have a great format which they can build on.
