Vintage Goodwood
Discussion
I went for the whole weekend with the family and even took a couple of friends and their kid who had never camped before and I have to say we all loved it. Yes the weather was a bit of a pain on Friday but what mud did appear on Friday was covered in wood chips by Saturday morning so no problems there.
The who thing was very well organised, and I think this was well summed up by the announsment each morning that all cars post 1989 had to be off site before the public were let in.
High lights included:
The vast majority people in period dress, and big hats off to all those women who must have spent hours just getting their hair and make up into those forties styles, you looked stunning
The music stages covering all tastes
Alvin Stardust, I could not believe how good he was
Kid Creole and the stunning Coconuts I need to get me one of those Zoot Suits
And how good were Earth Wind and Fire, an amazing two hour set
The period cars all over the place
The attention to detail
Great shopping, managed to get all my new/old gear for the Revival
And just to top it off, as the family were sitting down for lunch, Lord March came over to ask us if we were enjoying ourselves, we then had a five min conversation about the event, his hotrod that his does drive and the improvements he was looking to make to the event for next year. All in all he came across as a top bloke as did his right hand man.
We saw him a number of other times during the event talking to participations and vendors etc taking notes as they went.
So I will most certainly be going next year
Here are a few pics, not greta I'm afraid:
The local spiv, this guy was brillant
One of my boys asked the owner of this bike if he could buy it of him, it made me so proud
Alvin, I hate to think how old he is now but the man can still put on a show

We went Sat & Sun: couldn't make Friday, as still on the 'plane home from the states, so missed the Faces which 'er indoors really wanted to catch. The kids had a great time, the whole event had a friendly inclusive atmosphere & the music we caught was superb - Noisettes were far better than I expected, Kid Creole exactly as I remembered, Roy Wood, not really my thing, but he ploughed on even though his voice was checking out, Martha Reeves, what a lady, & the rock'n'roll set never seemed to stop!
A real pedant might wonder why certain cars were parked where they were - the white SD1 seemed a bit odd, & the two Capris in the "Old Spice" colours confused me a touch - but overall, who really cares? Everyone had fun whether they dressed up or not, I wore what I wore in the '80s, mainly because it still fits every day...
Would we go again? Maybe, but I don't really see it as an every year event - I guess it depends on who's appearing & when.

I guess Old Spice and Ford Capris resonate for those around in the 70's. They were seen as uber-cool, hard to believe now! having just picked up the chichester observer and as usual the residents are complaining that the music was keeping there awake at 2am over the wekend.i didnt go but i am sure the music had stopped long before then. one of those complaining said that his parents could hear it in barnham (a village 6 miles away)once again this is utter b******* how do i know well i worked saturday night and finished in barnham at 11pm and sent most of the night in and around barnham and didnt hear a thing and i also live there and nothing. not only that but we had a music night in barnham with an outdoor stage and i couldnt hear that from 400metres away.
i am sick of these local HICKS complaining over noise/traffic/too many people, if i hear one complaining about what happens at Goodwood i usually say what about the income and jobs it provides.
i think LM must be getting fed up up with these idiots i know i am.
sorry rant over and my letter is on the way to the local paper but i will be surprised if these muppets can read
ps only 29 days to go to revival

Well I was staying at Shripney just outside Bognor Regis we could see the strobe lights & hear a distant thump of bass.
Not enough to be a prob though!
My inlaws spent the weekend at Chichester Marina & could hear it note for note. I am sure some locals are more concerned that it will grow [ like the FOS Revival]
& turn into a mini Glastonbury.

I live close to Itchenor on the edge of Chichester Harbour, we could definitely here the music on Friday night. It wasn't loud enough to be annoying at all, I was then at Vintage on the Saturday and had a fab time, but the music did go on till 2.00am so I would imagine if you lived a lot closer than me then it could be a bit disturbing.
