Getting some conflicting advice. In SA the vets are saying there is no quarantine this side, but I am under the impression the dog needs to do a month in kennels over here.

Has anyone done it recently and can advise?

TIA smile

PS I'll also post in the pets section as it's quite quiet in here

It depends where you are coming from, in some countries you can go through a 6 month process of it being chipped, vaccinated etc, then you can bring it in without quarantine, but SA isn't one of those places.

(NOTE: informed amateur, not a professional, I could be wrong)

That's what I thought. The dog needs blood tests at the SA end and then a three month wait, but I still imagined a month this side regardless.

Our two dogs came over in 2004. They spent six months in quarantine in the UK. Perhaps it is different now. Can't remember what they had to do in SA, Parents handled that because we were already here.

Someone I know kenneled her dog in Spain nr Gibraltar IIRC as the process was either cheaper, or shorter. They then got a pet passport to enter the UK.

Sorry if a bit vague, but that's all I remember.

Well it's all sorted. Jabs all done in SA, three months wait/blood tests etc and she was on the plane and headed here. Off the plane, quick check over and in the car home, no quarantine at all. For a 14 year old dog, much loved, it was relatively stress free. She's been here for four months now, settled in and happy as anything.

Simples. Thanks all smile

Wow - a lot easier than it used to be.
