Another ride out on the PA last night with a couple of boys on Souls... good times!

Have to say that coming from a lot of full suss riding in recent years I'm really glad I went for steel.

Just that bit of compliance to help out ham fisted riding styles!
Agree on that, a decent steel frame gives a bit more comfort than aluminium (in general - there are exceptions). It depends on the frame though: my On-One 456ss frame has a less-forgiving back end than my Genesis Altitude, but then it weighs approx 1lb more for the frame alone and is built for a different purpose in mind. The 456 is still very comfortable though even with a solid Thomson seatpost which are supposedly harsh.

I have a cove stiffee its a great bike but my current hardtail is a cove handjob it feel's/ride's very differently due to being steel, I actually prefer it.
So I swapped the kit on the sfiffee on to a Hustler.

However a lot of good alternatives already mentioned.

If I could've justified that I'd have bought one - I had a very short ride on one but it was a very, very nice bike to ride.

I couldn't even justify a Cotic BFe, didn't want a Stiffee as I wanted steel, so ended up with an On-One 456 Summer Season @ £165 new. Absolute hoot of a frame to ride, probably verging on being my favourite frame I've owned (and there have been a few: Cotic Soul, "proper" steel Kona Explosif, Genesis Altitude 853...).

Worth checking out the On-Ones IMO.
I missed this on-one suggestion before - the 456 frames do look good for the money and a Carbon bundle can be had for £399 which sounds good - will go look at some reviews.

On_one are brilliant at what they do well; good, competitively-priced steel or alloy frames.

Just avoid the Ti ones like the plague, from what I glean on t'internet forums, and as for cheap carbon frames.... whistle
