I started a thread months ago about my rockshox dart 3 breaking. I never got round to replacing it with a new fork but now that the weather is picking up a bit i'm going to be buying one this weekend.

The bike is a Trek 6300 disc 2009 and came with rockshox dart 3 100mm travel (Yeah right). My question is do I settle for another 100mm fork or will it be fine to fit a 120mm fork - I do like jumps! Budget of between £300 - £350

Appologies for bringing this up again but I don't want to get it wrong.

You need to look at the technical stuff to see if its rated up to a longer travel fork
If not you run the very real risk of it breaking - probably just when you dont want it to - with a trip to hospital/the dentist

Good luck

Stick with the 100mm of travel and if you like jumps then try some Rockshox Rebas. It is a grey area when going for longer travel forks but it is not uncommon for a headstock to be ripped off due to stress on the frame, as said in the previous post, a trip to hospital would be imminent, particularly if you ride hard.
You wont need more than the 100mm travel anyway, even for jumps, some jumpers are using rigid forks so i am sure you would be fine on 1oomm travel jobbies.

If you cant afford rebas than try marzocchi bombers or dirt jumpers, or just go for Rockshox toras, they will all be up to the job.

20mm increase won't break the frame. Besides, the difference in total fork length, and therefore head angle, between a 100mm and 120mm travel fork isn't always a case of adding 20mm. One 100mm fork may be taller than another 100mm model, which may be greater or lesser than another model of 120mm fork, there is no universal answer.

Rebas are great, Revelations are good too (basically the same but longer travel.

I would have thought 120mm would be fine on your trek.
