Looking for a new bike for my daughter's 8th birthday at the moment. Have just tried her out on a couple of small 26" and std 24" versions and the 24 seems to be a better fit (though obviously won't last as long).

Being 8: the looks are the most important thing for her!
Best was a Cube 240 at £300
Middle Carrera Luna £190
Last Trek 220 £240

I'm looking for recommendations (to validate the outlay) / cheaper alternatives as these seem very expensive and I can't see anywhere selling 2nd hand versions (ebay seems to be full of Apollos)

Having used the search function, Islabikes seem to get lots of recommendations: does anyone know where there are any dealers or do you need to go to the factory. Also, their website says they buy back - what then happens to the bikes - don't they sell refurbed?

Islabikes is the way to go. You order from them over the phone. You'll need an Allen key to tighten stuff up when it arrives.

They buy back, but the first time you ring them for a price they will tell you that you'll get more on eBay. And they are right.

Islabikes as described

My 9y old is on a CNOC24 shes had for 18/12

She can cycle up our local 15% hill that I couldnt 5y ago before getting fit

Bit of a shocker on several different levels

Her little sis rode a CNOC16 on her 4th birthday without stabilisers at the 1st attempt making saddo cycling daddy more proud than when he rode this years 19th stage of the TdF over 3 Alpine climbs

PS CNOC16 for sale as soon as I can work out the best place to advertise it smile

My daughter got one of these for her 8th birthday, she has had it over 3 years, it is a lovely bike, she adores it. She is tall for her age and the 24 was just about manageable for her. I cant see it lasting much past her next birthday though. We were living in Canada back then, so the price wasn't so high!

My kid has the Cube, but the next size up, the 260. He has utterly brutalized it and will take 1- 1;5m drops on it, and it's still in one piece. Wasn't too heavy at about 13kg.

Thumbs up from me.
