I hope noone realised (daft roadie moment content)

I joined a friend for part of their lejog trip today as I live relatively locally - the leg was okehampton to cheddar. All well and good we complete our 85 odd mile journey into cheddar, where I left them at their accomodation to ride up the gorge and home.

I should add that last time I rode up the gorge it was the first time I had ridden my road bike and I was virtually falling off sideways I was going so slowly.

First section.. blimey. this is just as tough as I remember it. Must be the extra weight of touring kit on the back.. Second section.. bloody hell! ok stop.. it must just be that ive not eaten enough.. stopped and had a quick break and some food. Final part of the steep section and im off and pushing the bike. I stop for a chat with a couple of climbers... get on the bike... and discover that the shifter had just been being a bit stubborn and I actually had an extra 7 gears to play with.

Funnily enough the rest of the hill wasnt a problem from there!

Almost had a proper moment myself yesterday - gears have been messing around a little, so got on my bike, cycled 50m, looked down at gears, caught a drain which pushed me into the kerb at 20mph. back of bike came up, I almost high sided, scraped the whole of the front wheel along the kerb for a very long way, got my left foot unclipped and was running along the road at20mph with a back wheel almost whacking my head and a bike attached to my right foot.

I eventually stopped upright, looked at bike, picked up the now-flung water bottle, realised the grand total of damage was light scuffing to the left of the front tyre, and a severely worried woman in a car behind me.

Was almost mega bad, fortunately laughing about it now

I did a daft roadie thing the other day. The chain had come off the lower jockey wheel, god knows how but anyway I tried to nudge it back on with my toe. 15mph to a stop pretty sharpish with toe lodged in the back wheel. Wont be doing that again and very glad no one was behind me so sort of got away with it.

Yeowch. did your shoes / toes survive the incident?

Toes did, shoe didnt. It deformd the toe cap, needed new ones anyway so it was a great excuse to buy a new pair and while I was there I bought a new bike LOL

That reminds me of watching one of my school teachers coming into the playground one morning back in the 90's, he was the "cool" maths teacher and had spokie dokies on his wheels, one on the front was stuck so he tapped it with his toe..... caught his foot in the front wheel, went over the bars and broke both arms.

I did a similar one a few years ago on my winter bike. One of the front mudguard stays had come free at the dropout and three times I managed to bend down while moving and hook it behind the dropout to stop the stay flapping around. The fourth time I somehow managed to get my hand caught in the wheel, came to a dead stop, and landed on my head.

I didn't really hurt myself but I had to replace the forks and have the wheel rebuilt, and I had the frame resprayed and an Aheadset and stem fitted while I was at it! Oh, and a new helmet. £300+...

I was on my old hack once coming home from work. Noticed a slight buckle in my front wheel, tried to kick it back in again.

Landed on my head.

Sorted the wheel at home after I laughed my way there with a bit of blood here and there...
