I bought a Cube Reaction Pro a couple of months back to get into a bit of proper off roading etc....
A friend of mine said he would like to do the same (go to Dalby etc) and use his current bike (Diamond back i think, nothing special but ok)

He then decided he also wanted to spend a few quid and get a new and up to date bike too.......

He was looking at Specialized, Ghost and others but NOT CUBE as he didn't want to be laughed at for copying me.

I got a text the other day asking if i wanted to 'take the twins out' to which i found out he had gone and bought the exact same bike as me, same colours and got the extras that i have been looking to buy in the next week or two (chain protector and white pedals)

He told his OH that it cost £750 and really it was £1100 or so.

I now don't want to go out on bikes with him as i don't want to look silly both on the same bike etc also out of principle.........

Am i being unreasonable?

Mumsnet have a thread about people riding the exact same bike and the solution is to just make sure your outfits and hair don't clash.

But really, why does it bother you?

If you wanted a unique bike you should have bought one.
Stop being silly and go and ride with him.
Then take him out at every corner; that'll learn him. hehe

be the better rider exactly!

2 years ago the LBS had an amazing deal on the last few Lapierre 714... £2k for a £3.5k bike....
I got one...and then the mate of mine who found the feal got one. I had NO problem us both rifing the same bike... we'd fitted different upgrades and details, but really...just move on, enjoy the bike.

Get matching clothing and pretend you're a works team.

Seriously though it would be a great opportunity to test out fitness levels and rider proficiency, see who is improving most where you'll know for sure it's not the bike.

Definitely being unreasonable. Why on earth would it matter if you've both got the same bike?

You're not much of a mate if that's more important to you than just getting out for a laugh with him. confused

Just buy a pair of "hire bike" stickers.

I quite like the other guys style - you should tell him that you plan to fit a basket or something ridiculous and see if he copies.

Lol you're being unreasonable. But I'd probably react the same so have a little sulk then go out and beat him on a ride let him know who's the boss and who's the bh in the relationship.

When you start wearing matching thongs...worry.

I do sort of know what you mean as me and my mate have the same skid lid which does whiff a bit of the ghey.
