First/index finger.

Make sure that your brake levers are in line with your forearm when you're on the bike. I've never understood using the second finger, index finger all the way IMO.

On one of my old bikes I used my middle finger so I could change gear with index and thumb.
With my current bike I can change gear using either side of my thumb so brake with my index finger.
I find one finger plenty using 11yr old Formula 140/165mm (I think) discs.

Always been index finger, and it's always hovering over the lever.

First 2 for me, right until the moment I panic and need the braking most, then its normally grab a handful followed by a trip into the nearby countryside smile
