In the last week or so I have lost 4, but on the upside I gained 8.......won't last for long though!

There are a couple of guys local to me who are hell bent on bagging all of the KOM's, so go out on short rides targeting the segments - fine if that is the sort of riding you enjoy I guess!

What' the best way of logging the GPS data, ideally for less than £150, that can be used for running as well as cycling?

My old HTC desire HD just only lasts about 30 mins with the GPS turned on and a logging app running (plus I hate running with a phone in my pocket) so thinking of getting something specific. HRM capability would be a bonus too. Does such a thing exist?

They seem to be like buses. Go for ages without any, and then BAM 2 come along at once. Yesterday was a great day to be me! WOO!
My daughter walked her bike up a hill near where I stay, it took her almost 6 minutes as she stopped half way up for a blether and she had the QOM for over a year until someone took it off her

My missus lost a couple of QOM's recently and made me take her out and pace her up the relevant hills so she could regain them, nearly killed me. She is about 9 stone wet through and has strong legs from years of dancing, I'm a 13 1/2 stone pie eater with legs like a sparrow.

I have found Strava to be addictive, even though I am an amateur at best.
On the road I am 1 second off a KOM that a mate has, and 4th by 4 seconds on another enjoyable section, on the MTB I have a few top 10's that may get improved on, but that is weather and wildlife dependant,
But after a ride I am looking at the data, PR's, gains etc, and logging up different routes and new roads,
As for training, all I train for is to be a better fitter rider, and set targets of either distance or landmarks, If you see me in a race then I must've got lost laugh I am a heavy build with a rock n roll lifestyle, instead of carbing up I beer up drinkeekbanghead But thats how I life my life, Cycling is a hobby for me, not a job (but a chuffin expensive hobby laugh)

Does anyone know if the Polar H7 Bluetooth monitor works with the iPhone app, or is it Wahoo only?

I know the ones you mean. 10 miles or less, coasting along then blasting segments.

I took a spin up to RP and back today with a couple of mates. On the way home we stopped at a set of temp lights along the river near Richmond with a chap in full Garmin kit. When the lights changed he tapped off at a reasonable pace - then all of a sudden he took off like a rocket - we stayed with him then without warning he dropped right off the pace and we carried on past him at circa 22-24mph. Approaching a roundabout he caught up with us and sat behind us for a while, then all of a sudden he took off again like a scalded kitten - this leapfrogging took place another couple of times and it soon became apparent he was Strava bashing! I guess it is a good way of interval training but if it was simply 'Strava bashing' can that style of riding really be enjoyable?

There are sections on a couple of my loops that I give it my all, pre Strava I did as it was a test of how far i could blast it before the legs gave in on a certain stretch, like lamppost counting, Strava has just put this in a competetive format.
I certainly dont go out to bash Strava, I go out to spin my legs and enjoy the ride.

The guys local to us though are only Strava bashing. I genuinely believe if their Garmin was broken they wouldn't bother going out for a ride.

Worse are the people who have been marking the start and finishes on the roadside, subtle blobs of paint and things that just happen to coincide with segments...

and now a confession, for a while I have been trying to shamelessly bag a segment near me, nothing special just a 600m sprint or so, I've tried a few times but the garmin never seemed to pick up that segment, then i realised it was within the privacy zones I had established....

Nothing wrong with testing yourself but as TKF says these guys are designing short routes to take in as many strava segments as possible, and then giving it beans just on the segments. I suppose if it floats your boat then great but I really cannot see how that makes for an enjoyable ride!

I actually bagged myself a KOM today, unintentional mind, just a short uphill section that I detest and want to be away from ASAP as people tend to drive like numpties there, Will I be going out to keep it or beat it, will I heck, will and try and get that section over on and done with next time I am out, damn right. I certainly dont hold back to conserve energy to attack it, not for me that.

LOL. I have gone out with the intention of attacking a segment, but usually its either part of a training ride (a hill for example) or its a longer loop where i might be doing a 20 min effort, I would not dream of doing what he did there.

Living in West Yorkshire we have some really good climbs nearby. Did this one today as part of my ride. Greenhow Hill out of Pately Bridge, made even worse with a flippin head wind!

Nowhere near my PB which was set on a calm summer day last year. Was quite impressed with my place on the leaderboard until I saw the time gap with the fastest time. Still, he's the National hill climb champion biggrin
